I love the story of the pig and the chicken who were
walking down the street. As they passed by the local
café, they saw a sign in the window: Breakfast
Special – Bacon and Eggs. The chicken said,
“Let’s go in for breakfast.” The pig shook his head and
said, “I don’t think so.” When the chicken
asked “Why?” the pig replied, “For you it’s a

I am well aware that many who are reading this are
actively involved in worship, nurture, and service; some
are just getting your feet wet or aren’t aware of all the
opportunities available to become a “living sacrifice.”
Unfortunately, some are simply choosing to not be

did not have his knee replacement

unfolds. He hopes to have the surgery in February, so
here is the tentative preaching schedule for this month.

Just 4 Men
February 11
On the Second Saturday of each month there is a small
group of men who are dedicated to their Spiritual growth
meeting at Shiloh. We call this group Just 4 Men, but it has
never been just 4 men, and we welcome more.
We are currently in a series called “The Anatomy of a
Disciple” learning how to become better followers of Jesus
Christ. Don’t worry if you have not been there for the
others. Come enjoy breakfast, the fellowship of believers,
and the discussion of the growing as we learn what a
disciple is made of.
Look for a sign-up sheet at the Inspiration Station to let us
know you are coming. We eat at 7:30 a.m. and are done by
9 a.m. so you don’t miss any of your important Saturday
duties.
I would like to thank
everyone for their cards,
flowers and prayers while I
was in the hospital. Being
there for a total of four
weeks, your prayers helped
me through some tough
times.
A special thanks to Mike Rush and Carol Sue Hayworth
for driving “Miss Olene" to many appointments, doctors
or wherever I needed to go. Also Larry and Phyllis Hood
for taking me to Indy for my eye appointment. Thank
you to Teresa Franklin and Teresa Rose for decorating
my Christmas tree. I did not get to enjoy it before
Christmas, but have since returning home.
Last but not least, Pastor Tim and Pastor Mark. They
are always there when needed. I am so blessed that God
brought me to Shiloh. My Shiloh family has enabled me
to continue living in Logansport and I am forever
grateful.

Supporting Shiloh Youth is a “No-brainer!”
People like to get gift cards as gifts, and they are easy to
use. The Shop with Scrip program that you are supporting
the Shiloh Youth Group with is a great way to make your
gift card purchases. At the Inspiration Station, there is a
printed list of the merchants and their types of gift cards.
Right there with those printed lists is a sign-up sheet for
your monthly order. The orders are placed after the
second Sunday of each month so your cards are available
by the third Sunday.
You can also register to place your orders online. In this
case you will get notifications of special deals and higher
returns at particular times for selected cards. The special
deals normally happen for a limited time so getting notified
by email is the most efficient way to hear about it. When
you register online, you can place your order any time and
then bring your payment to church. The special deals apply
when you make your online order and SYG receives a
better benefit.
To register online go to www.shopwithscrip.com. Before
you go, ask Pastor Mark or Christina Pifer for Shiloh’s
enrollment code. Thank you for your support!!

I hope you all have had a chance to read
Pastor Tim’s Ponderings in this issue. He

three
areas

church
participation: worship, nurturing, and
service.
While
his
competence
in
portraying his sentiments on paper is characteristically
remarkable, this month’s well-written message seemed to
speak volumes to me personally.
My husband George, who underwent recent heart surgery,
received many cards from people in (and outside) the Shiloh
Church family. Opening each one was like receiving a hug.
When you are on the receiving end of a get-well card, that
folded piece of cardstock inside an envelope takes on new
meaning. It represents that “nurturing” aspect that Pastor
Tim talks about. We also received phone calls, texts, visits,
and meals…all of which were acts of caring. We treasured
each one. This doesn’t even include your prayers!
Our recent experience and Pastor Tim’s Ponderings have
changed my outlook on what a “nurturing” act can do for
someone
else…whether

I’m going to make a vow right now to send
more cards, check on more sick people, share more meals,
and celebrate others’ achievements.
Thank you, church family, for your
nurturing touch.

January was a great month with the Shiloh Youth Group! It
was great to be back together after missed chances in
December due to the weather and holidays. One of the
things we did in January was to ask questions about what
we like about SYG. One of the things that the teens like is
food, so I asked what they like best. The number one
answer on the board is…pizza. That is not a big surprise at
all, but pizza every week would be monotonous. The next
on the list was sloppy joes, followed closely by
tacos and hamburgers. Then there
were sandwiches… particularly subs,
calzones, strombolis, and hot ham
& cheese. Hot dogs and chili are
both worthy of an honorable
mention also.
If you have ever considered bringing food for youth group
this list might be helpful. There is a sign-up sheet at the
Inspiration Station where you can pick a Sunday to provide
food. Sticking around to help serve is a great way to meet
the youth. Grab a friend and put something together soon!
February brings Superbowl Subs. We will be making them
on Thursday, Feb 2, beginning at 4:30 p.m.to set up. Your
subs will be ready by 6 p.m. if you are picking them up on
Thursday. We will meet at 9 a.m. on Saturday to complete
the orders to be picked up on Sunday.
Thanks for your Support!!
Women’s Fellowship
The next meeting of Women’s Fellowship will be Wednesday,
February 8, at 6 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. A meal will be
served to all who attend. All ladies are welcome!
“Care Packages” will be assembled for our college students
and shut-ins. See Linda McKaig for more information.
SYG meetings in February will have some exciting guests to
go along with our regular activities. Youth from 6th through
12th grades are invited. Bring your Bible and bring a friend.

Mission Spotlight
One of the best parts of my job is being part of the
benevolence committee. We meet about once a quarter to
decide how to disperse 15% of worship and Sunday school
offerings. We work to give aid to the needy and to support
Gospel advancing ministries. One of the newest missions
we are supporting is God’s Littlest Angels, an orphanage in
Haiti. – Pastor Mark
God's Littlest Angels is a Haitian orphanage
located in the mountains above Petion-Ville, close
to the village of Fermathe. The majority of the
children brought to the orphanage are between
the ages of newborn and seven years old. We
also have older children, sibling groups, and
children with special needs. GLA offers short
term assistance to children needing a place to
stay due to ill health or the death of a parent but
who are not for adoption. These children will
return to their biological families once their
circumstances improve. Some children who
cannot return to their biological families are
waiting for adoptive parents.
God's Littlest Angels has ministered to the
children of Haiti since 1994 and has been
involved in international adoptions since 1997.
GLA is involved in several children's ministries in
the local community. In the year 2000, GLA
implemented a school sponsorship program for
children unable to attend school due to the lack of
funds. Today, almost 400 children attend school
sponsored by people in North America and
Europe.
The Story of God's Littlest Angels
God's Littlest Angels was founded by John and
Dixie Bickel on Christmas Day, 1994, when a 1
pound 15 ounce baby was born at the local
mission hospital in Fermathe. Because of her
size, she was not given much of a chance for
survival.
With
the
parents'
permission, Dixie took the baby
home. John put his skills to work
making an incubator out of a
cardboard box and a heating
pad. At the time, Dixie didn't
have access to IV supplies, so she kept the baby
alive by feeding her with an eye dropper every
two hours. Within four days, she was drinking
from a doll bottle.
After four months, Angel Noël survived and
went home to her parents in April of 1995. We
kept in contact with Angel Noël for many
years. We have not heard from her family since
the earthquake of 2010 displaced so many people
in Port-au-Prince, but we continue to pray that her
family is still safe and well.
After Angel went
back to her family, God
continued
to
send
babies in need of
medical support.
In
November 1995, John
and Dixie followed God's
call to leave the mission
they were working with
and moved into the community to work with
Haitian families and their infants.
Haiti's health care is underdeveloped and
has few facilities to care for premature
infants. Haiti has the highest infant mortality rate
in the Western Hemisphere. Out of all the infants
who die in Haiti, 60 percent die in their first year of
life. There are few other programs in Haiti that
focus on these newborn babies.
Doctors and clinics refer babies who are in need
of intensive nursing care and nutritional support to
GLA. The ministry has developed from a Child
Survival Center that cares only for premature,
malnourished and abandoned infants under two
years old into an orphanage that facilitates
adoptions for children of all ages.
Today, the orphanage is a fully functioning
nursery with incubators, warming beds, and the
capability to provide oxygen, intravenous fluids,
and monitoring support for critically ill
infants. While at the same time, we are providing
full-time child care for all of the children.

Reading for
February 2017
February scripture reading provides a continuation
in our reading of the even major kinds of literature
utilized in the Bible.
We are reading from a
different section of the scripture each day of the
week. By switching daily, you won’t feel like you
will never get through a particular section of the
Bible…like Leviticus or Numbers.
