A SPOT OF HISTORY...
The Convent was first set up in 1369 by the Friars Preachers, also known as
the Dominicans or Jacobins. One of the original features of this new order
was that it was based in city centres.
The establishment of the Dominican Convent in Rennes marked the
beginning of an important spiritual, intellectual and political role in the
history of the city and of Brittany as a whole.
On 17 November 1491, Anne of Brittany celebrated her engagement with
King Charles VIII of France at the Convent.
