Two Sisters Working To Empower Women to Become Entrepreneurs in Jamaica A New Batch of Women Entrepreneurs in Jamaica weight in on the recent results of a study stating that Jamaica is the worst place for female entrepreneurs. The Jamaica Gleaner recently published a study conducted by the Women’s’ Entrepreneurial Venture Scope, Jamaica was at the bottom of the list of best places for female entrepreneurs. Jamaica ranks below average when it comes to access to finance and the availability of capacity and skill training for women. Internet Income Jamaica, led by sisters, Alicia Lyttle and Lorette Lyttle, is working to help reverse the pitfalls that restrain women entrepreneurs in Jamaica – especially when it comes to women earning a viable income. They are providing training and workshops that will enable women to use their existing knowledge and skills and develop new skills that will enable them to earn an income online. “With the help and support of Utech ,we are very excited to help make a change in Jamaica. As the report states, Jamaicans (in particular women), will have a very tough time if they are looking towards the local economy to earn a living, especially as an entrepreneur.” states Alicia Lyttle. “That is exactly why we want to help Jamaicans leverage the power of the Internet and earn money from the global economy, working from home, then spending the money locally to grow the local economy.” “The success stories we get on a regular basis is what keeps us coming back,” says Lorette Lyttle. “We have women who have gone through out bootcamps that are as young as 13 years old and up to the age of 65 years old, both earning a steady income working online. We have some students that have to turn jobs away because they have too many opportunities! Can you imagine that!” says Lorette. “I went to the boot camp in July and I am now at the point where I have to be turning down jobs because I already have so much work to do! I'm happy I confirmed a 30 hour/per week post this past week and I have 2 other clients that I work with regularly. I am officially a work at home mom now. I am so thankful to Alicia & Lorette for bringing this opportunity to us here in Jamaica!” Zunammie Sergeant-Keren “I’m 65 years old and at my age, it’s almost impossible to find a job in Jamaica. After the class I quickly got a part-time job working from home for a company in Australia. I love it and they love my work! I’m interviewing to work with a company in Dubai as well. I don’t know how I would have made extra money without Alicia & Lorette brining this training to Jamaica. I’m very grateful to them.
