How to use purasolve Paint Equipment Cleaner A powerful cleaning alternative for MEK, Toluene blends, Acetone, Xylene and other dangerous solvents for resin and paint equipment clean-up. Tomorrow’s Compliance Today Page 1 11-04264 How to use purasolve Paint Equipment Cleaner purasolve Paint Equipment Cleaner is designed to be an alternative for MEK, Toluene, Acetone, and Lacquer Thinner blends, in the application of cleaning painting equipment. CAUTION: purasolve Paint Equipment Cleaner is not a thinner or diluent. How does it clean? purasolve Paint Equipment Cleaner cleans in a manner different from traditional thinners, and will clean all standard solvent based epoxy paints and primers. Thinner or MEK dilutes the paint until all that remains in the line or gun is thinner, which evaporates. The used thinner, and the paint cleaned from the equipment then becomes a waste; an emulsion of paint and thinner. purasolve Paint Equipment Cleaner cleans by displacement, rather than dilution, and lifts the paint from surfaces by the action of molecular polarity, much like a magnet lifts filings. Reduce, Re-use, Recycle! By not mixing with the paint, the purasolve Paint Equipment Cleaner allows paint to fall out of the purasolve and settle, enabling the purasolve to be poured off, or separated, and re-used repeatedly. By not forming an emulsion with the paint, the cleaning power of the purasolve does not diminish with repeated use. The paint that is left after the purasolve is poured off, or separated, is the only waste that is generated by using purasolve Paint Equipment Cleaner. Not a mixture of paint and solvent. This reduces the volume of waste generated by over 80%! purasolve Paint Equipment Cleaner is not combustible, non-volatile, and does not evaporate, which means the purasolve is not lost to the air. The lack of evaporation gives cost, usage and safety benefits, but also requires some changes in procedure for cleaning equipment when using purasolve Paint Equipment Cleaner. (See instructions for different equipment below) Extends equipment life! Due to its more powerful cleaning action, the purasolve will also affect paint residual in hoses and equipment that are already in use, as it lifts the paint from the surface of the hoses and guns. This in turn can cause tip blockages and paint defects from the residual pieces of paint being released and forced out. We strongly recommend commencing the use of purasolve Paint Equipment Cleaner with new hoses and equipment. The purasolve will then keep these hoses and equipment as new, as it will not allow any residual paint to build up inside, enabling significantly extended hose and equipment life. Page 2 11-04264 How to use purasolve Paint Equipment Cleaner Dramatic colour changes! By not allowing any residual paint to be left in equipment also enables dramatic colour changes, as the lines and hoses are completely cleared of any of the previous colour used! Since the purasolve Paint Equipment Cleaner does not mix with the paint, it will clean even when tinted from repeat use. It is possible to clean red paint or primer, with black purasolve Paint Equipment Cleaner, and charge with white paint, and see no effect on the color of the paint sprayed! Safer, healthier, and responsible! This product is a cost effective, safer, healthier and more responsible alternative to traditional solvents and thinners; however the manufacturer takes no responsibility for coating contamination. Your paint manufacturers Technical Data Sheet should be followed at all times. The purasolve Paint Equipment Cleaner is not flammable, and has such low vapor pressure that no respirator is needed when using this product. Eye protection should be used, as well as Nitrile (not latex) gloves. Instructions for: Cup Guns and Gravity Feed Guns Step 1 Cleaning Set Up Set up a “gross cleaning station” with sufficient purasolve Paint Equipment Cleaner to submerge equipment. Step 2 Gross Clean Drain all paint out of cup. Clean cup and head using the purasolve Paint Equipment Cleaner. Step 3 Final Clean With a separate tank or bucket complete a final clean and detail with new or filtered purasolve Paint Equipment Cleaner. Step 4 Drying Equipment Using a rag or compressed air, hand detail and rag or air dry the exterior of the gun head and take-up tube, and the inside and outside of the cup, paying particular attention to the take up tube and the inside of the cup. purasolve Paint Equipment Cleaner will not evaporate on its own, and needs to be rag or air dried to remove. Start up and pattern check Page 3 11-04264 It is a necessity that a pattern check spray is conducted on commencing spraying. When the next charge of paint is put into the cup and sprayed, a 2-second “pattern check spray” will remove any purasolve Paint Equipment Cleaner from the barrel of the gun. How to use purasolve Paint Equipment Cleaner Instructions for: Pots and Hoses Step 1 Cleaning Set up Have available a “Waste” container and a “Saving” container in which to spray the paint and cleaning solvent in to. Step 2 Gross Clean Drain all excess paint, and place 7 – 10 litres of purasolve Paint Equipment Cleaner in the pot and close. Step 3 Gross Clean Pressurize and spray out paint into “Waste” paint container. The painter will feel the gun kick when the bulk of the paint is sprayed out and purasolve Paint Equipment Cleaner is flowing through the line. Step 4 Final Clean Spray the purasolve Paint Equipment Cleaner into “Saving” container until lines flow clean (visual). The gun can be detailed, if needed, in the purasolve and then rag or air dried. Step 5 Drying equipment Open the pot, drain any excess purasolve into “Saving” container, and rag or air dry the top of the pressure lid, and the inside of the pot. Please note! The purasolve Paint Equipment Cleaner will remain in the lines, and prevent any paint from building up in the lines. It is recommended, when using pressure pots or airless systems, to begin using purasolve Paint Equipment Cleaner with new hoses, as the purasolve will clean the old paint from within the hoses, and in extreme cases cause clogs at the gun tip from the old paint. Using purasolve Paint Equipment Cleaner will prevent any paint from building up in a line, forever! Step 6 Solvent Recovery Save the used purasolve Paint Equipment Cleaner in the “Saving” bucket and allow the paint to settle out overnight. Step 7 Solvent Filtration Pour the purasolve Paint Equipment Cleaner out of the “Saving” bucket after settling and recycle through filtration unit into bucket or drum for re-use. Dispose of the paint on the bottom of the “Saving” bucket. This is your only waste. Start up and Pattern Check When the pot is recharged, let the paint push the purasolve Paint Equipment Cleaner out into the “Saving” bucket, and do a pattern check when the paint begins to spray. It is important to spray out all of the purasolve Paint Equipment Cleaner from the line before painting. This should be about 5 seconds per 10 metres of line. Page 4 11-04264 How to use purasolve Paint Paint Equipment Cleaner Instructions for: Airless Equipment Step 1 Cleaning Set up Have available a “Waste” container and a “Saving” container in which to spray the paint and cleaning solvent in to. Step 2 Gross Clean Wipe the take-up tube or hose with a rag dampened with purasolve Paint Equipment Cleaner and place hose in to 20 litre bucket of the purasolve. Step 3 Gross Clean Spray out paint into “Waste” paint container. The painter will feel the gun kick when the bulk of the paint is sprayed out and purasolve Paint Equipment Cleaner is flowing through the line. Step 4 Final Clean When the purasolve Paint Equipment Cleaner reaches the spray head, begin spraying into the “saving” bucket. Do this until the spray is clean of paint (visual). The gun can be detailed, if needed, in the purasolve and then rag or air dried. Step 5 Drying equipment Lift the take up tube out of the purasolve and rag dry. Using purasolve Paint Equipment Cleaner will prevent any paint from building up in a hose, forever! Start up and pattern check – On start-up, place the take up tube in the paint and allow the paint to push the residual purasolve Paint Equipment Cleaner in the hose, out into the “Saving” bucket, until the Painter feels the paint hit the tip. Do a pattern check when the paint begins to spray, and then begin painting. It is important to spray out all of the purasolve Paint Equipment Cleaner from the line before painting. The pattern check should be sprayed for about 5 seconds per 10 metres of line. Page 5 11-04264
