Fresh from his debut run at Melbourne Fringe 2016, Comedy Award Nominee Alexander Cofield brings Woolly: The
Morose Merino to Adelaide Fringe for the first time, as the sarcastic sheep revisits his South Australian roots!
Through tales of shearing, shagging and sheep testicles being used as projectiles (all based on true stories) Woolly
attempts to better understand who he really is, and finally find acceptance in the hearts of others, despite his
moody manner.
In November 2015, 22 year old Brit Alex Cofield had his heart well and truly broken. The only logical way to mend
it? To run away to a sheep shearing shed in South Australia. Within two weeks he was on the other side of the
world, tossing bails and mustering rams. It is here on the lanolin-soaked boards that the character of Woolly was
born.
A self-deprecating sheep with serious issues; witness how Woolly tackles his feelings of self-worth, his jealousy of
rams that get put out to mate, and his irrational fear of lamb testicles, in an absurd yet heart-warming narrative
that reflects Cofield’s own masculinity crisis.
In his debut work that is conceived, devised, and performed entirely in Australia on a backpacker’s visa,
Alexander Cofield offers a fresh take on what it means to be “woolly” as he blends storytelling with comedy in a
sexually charged, satirical, one-sheep show that was nominated for the Best
Comedy award in its debut run at Melbourne Fringe 2016. If you’re not a part of Woolly’s flock yet, ewe soon will
be!

Notes to editor:
Alexander Cofield is a British artist who graduated from Rose Bruford Theatre College in 2014, where he trained in
devising, clowning and visual art.
As a founding member of ensemble theatre company Pulse 53, Cofield toured their debut work ‘Against

Now Cofield brings his own brand of storytelling and comedy to Adelaide Fringe with his first solo show, ‘Woolly:
The Morose Merino’ which made its worldwide debut at Melbourne Fringe 2016 to much critical praise, earning
