MICKLEOVER TIMES December 2014 Twas the Night…... Twas the night before Christmas and inside the flat, Not an animal was moving, not even a rat. On Christmas Eve, whilst tucked up in bed, A mince pie was out with a carrot as well, Too excited to sleep , thoughts of Christmas day Waiting for Santa to have a great smell. stuck in my head. As I started to sleep, I heard jingle bells, The mince pie, so tasty, nothing could beat, “Down to that house!” Santa yells. Except Santa’s presents, so tidy and neat. As I leapt out of bed, With everyone asleep and no-one awake, I saw Santa dressed in red, Santa will come and his magic he’ll make. His boots making not a sound, His belly was round. With me all snuggled in my wonderful bed, Santa slid down the chimney, Dreaming sweet dreams, all in my head. He got very dirty, Santa is coming, that’s what everyone says, His elves got very flirty. We’ve been waiting and waiting, waiting for days! His drank his milk, which he got for free, He fed his reindeer grain, Santa is here, that’s got to be the noise, He checked his map, Keep your ears listening and your eyes always The next stop was Spain . poised. He ate his mince pie, A big, fat man with a big, fat belly, While he was in the sky. His tummy always wobbling, just like a jelly! By Luke Galland Filling up the stocking with toys from his sack, and Dylan Sherratt 6HG Making no sound, not even a crack. A very jolly man doing his job on Christmas Eve, Delivering the presents before he can leave. By Benji Bedford and Adam Downes 6HG We Wish You a Merry Christmas.. On December 9th Mickleover Primary School`s choir went to The Royal British Legion, to sing Christmas carols for some elderly people who are part of the ‘Live at Home’ scheme. We walked there, and waited for about ten minutes whilst they finished their lunch, then we went to sing. Lots of them joined in, which helped to get everyone in the Christmas spirit! We sang: We Wish you a Merry Christmas, Jingle Bells, Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer, Noel, Grandma Dot Com and Away in a Manger (but in a different tune,) plus a few more songs. After we had finished singing, some of us gave out Christmas cards we had made. As a ’thank you’ for singing, we got some chocolates – GREAT! Then we walked back to school. Ben Jones and Jamie Durose Richards 6H Reception Nativity I liked the music when they went down the stairs. It made me feel happy. By Jack Burt RecB I was a baby doll in the Christmas play. I liked the football rhyme and I liked Mary and Joseph. By Poppy Uff RecL The ‘Not Now Nativity’ We did our play for three days. We dressed up as different characters. It was about baby Jesus. It was a lot of fun. We were very nervous. There were lots of people watching. By Lily Murphy and Connor Bates 2SW In Y1 we have done our Nativity with the Y2. We all enjoyed it because it was fun. We can’t wait for Santa to come. By Darcey Oversby 1WS A BIG ‘Thank you’ to the Tesco store in Mickleover for donating all the satsumas for our Junior Christmas activity day. Bread Making On 10th December, Y5 went into the hall and made different types of bread like: cinnamon, cheese, French, flat, pitta, tiger, swirl and a lot more. First we added all the dry ingredients into the mixing bowl. Then we poured 210ml of warm water into the mixture , making it into a dough. Next we had to knead the bread on the table. It was awfully sticky and gooey, so we had to be quick handling it. Lastly we got to do the best bit, which was plaiting, rolling or swirling. Everyone’s looked good and after we had finished, we took it home to bake in the oven for half an hour. It was scrumptious. We brought some bread in the next day to evaluate. By Shania Shah & Molly Parkinson 5G Cross Country at Moorways Every Wednesday, earlier this term, the cross country runners met in the hall at 2.55pm to get ready to go to Moorways and compete against other schools from across Derby. The Year 3/4 ran 1.45km and the Y5/6 ran 2 km. Whilst the Y3/4 were running, the Y5/6 stood at the side, ready to cheer them. The Y5/6 then got warmed up; the girls went first followed by the boys. Everyone found it challenging, (even the top runners). Participating in the aces, teaches you to pace yourself and tactics to use. Overall we did really well with the Y5/6 teams coming 2nd in one of their races; the Y3/4 boys and girls won all the trophies possible in their competition (6 in all!). Thank you to Mrs Taylor for organising running club and entering us in the competitions. By Luke Galland and Adam Downes Our Roman Visitor On Roman day, a Roman soldier, called Marcellus, came and told us about the Romans. We did lots of fun activities such as hop scotch and knuckle bones. In the afternoon, we made mosaics. It was so much fun. By Cameron Haxell & Leo Waring 4C Wanted - Old Calendars! Picture calendars are a great classroom resource. Could you send any old, or unwanted calendars to Mrs Harrison (6HG), but please ensure that pictures are child appropriate!! Congratulations! Congratulations to our Y5/6 gymnastics team who won the Derby City Gymnastics Festival earlier this month. Don’t forget to come and join us on Friday, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 10am, for our annual carol service, led by the Y6 pupils. We look forward to seeing you there. 19th Dec 5th Jan 13th Jan 22nd Jan 29th Jan 4th Feb 6th Feb 6th Feb 16th Feb 17th Feb 19th Feb 26th Feb 3rd March Dates for your Diary Break up for Christmas 5th March Return to school 5th March FOMPS meeting 5th March 6pm Y6 information evening 12th March 11.30am 5G parents in for lunch 12th March Y3/4 gym competition 13th March Non-uniform day (£1 per family) 25th March Break up for half term 26th March INSET DAY 27th March Return to school 27th March 11.30am 3RF parents in for lunch 27th March 11.30am 3F parents in for lunch 13th April Parents’ evening World Book Day 11.30am 6HG parents in for lunch Parents’ evening Celebration of dance 11.30am 6H parents in for lunch Comic Relief pm Y3/4 performance 6.30pm Y3/4 performance Non-uniform day (£1 per family) Break up for Easter Chocolate Bingo Return to school
