recommendations
Saturated Fat

problems such as obesity and cardiovascular disease
• Saturated fat is solid at room temperature
• ‘Meat and meat products’ and ‘milk and milk products’ are one of the main
contributors to saturated fat intake
• Red and processed meat should not exceed 70g per day for adults
Unsaturated Fat
Polyunsaturated Fat
Oils such as corn & sunflower
Polyunsaturated margarines
Oily fish - Sardines, mackerel, pilchards, salmon
Monounsaturated Fat
Olive oil, rapeseed oil and some vegetable oils

• Still use sparingly – 9 kcal per gram
Omega 3

• Essential Fatty Acid – cannot be produced by the body and must be obtained
from the diet
• Promotes good heart health

tuna
• It is recommended that we eat fish twice a week – one of these portions should
be oily fish
