Hilda United Methodist Church Hilda Herald SEPTEMBER, 2015 This Time of Year WEBSITE www.hildaumc.org Sunday Worship 11:00 AM Sunday School 10:00 AM Wednesday Prayer 9:00 AM PASTOR’S INFO Rev. Wade Powell 14201 Ranch Rd. 783 P.O. Box 1404 Mason, TX 76856 Cell: 325-347-7219 [email protected] Open Hearts Open Minds I have found myself at a loss for what to write about in this month’s newsletter. We have several things going on this time of year, but I find it hard to focus on only one thing for the article. We have school starting up, which means football, cheerleading, cross country. It means mentoring at the school. It means we are back into a routine, but the routine is a hectic one. It’s also Charge Conference time. That’s the time of year when we usually meet with the District Superintendent as a church. We have forms to fill out and decisions to make. This year the conference will be a bit different. The D.S. won’t be with us. Instead, we will have a partnering elder presiding at the meeting. Our partnering elder is Rev. Camille Bryant from Junction. And, the Charge Conference is going to be on October 18th at 1:30 P.M. I’ve also started my doctorate at Duke. I have a good bit of reading and writing to do, and will have to return to North Carolina in January. But, so far, it has been a great experience. So, when things get busy, when do we take a Sabbath. I think that it is very important to find a creative and relaxing and enjoyable time/activity. Usually, I try to paint, but this time of year I get to broadcast football games on the radio. Last night was the Punchers’ first game. They won 46-0, and I even managed to work in a quote/paraphrase from Martin Luther. I hope you will take time to recharge in the midst of being busy. Connect with God and enjoy. Blessings, Pastor Wade Open Doors Newsletter Editor: Jan Appleby [email protected] 1 Page 2 Hilda Herald UNITED METHODIST WOMEN HILDA UMW Dian Willmann presents Selene Wissemann with a Gift in Mission in honor of her 92nd birthday! Ten UMW members made a special trip to Austin to have lunch with member Selene Wissemann who had moved there almost a year ago. We had a wonderful visit and a wonderfully delicious lunch in the beautiful dining room of the Westminster Apartments where she resides. Her apartment is lovely with a wonderful view from the third floor. Selene also gave us a tour of the building - a beautiful chapel, a beauty shop, their own little “grocery store”, a lovely outdoor areawith incredible landscaping, a “workout” room, and an indoor movie theater among other amenities! She is really enjoying living there and has made many new friends. Our next meeting will be Tuesday, September 8 in Fellowship Hall. Hostess is Leatrice Haley and program leader is Dian Willmann. The program will be “Welcoming through Giving”. All ladies are invited to attend and bring a friend. UMW members celebrating with Selene at her new home in Austin Yvonne Eckert & Selene There’s a lot to appreciate in this moment. – Your journey will be much lighter and easier if you don’t try to carry your entire past and future around with you. Take a break. Let go of your obsession with yesterday’s struggles and tomorrow’s to-do list, and simply enjoy the beauty of what’s right here, right now. Sometimes you have to stop thinking that some new richness will fulfill you, so you can fully experience the richness that’s already yours. 2 Volume 6, Issue 8 Page 3 CALENDAR OF EVENTS Saturday, Sept. 5 - Annual Doss Fish Fry at the new VFD station on RR 783 Saturday, Oct. 3 - Seaquist House Tours 10 a.m.— 4:p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6 - Communion Sunday; choir resumes singing at worship services; choir practice after church Sunday, Oct. 4 - Communion Sunday; choir practice after church Sunday, Oct. 11 - choir practice after church; Annual Fall Camp Meeting on the Hilda church grounds Monday, Sept. 7 - Holiday - LABOR DAY FYI - the Seaquist House will be open for tours on Labor Day week-end - Saturday 10-4; Sunday 1-4; Monday 10-2 - $10 adults; $5 kids 6-12 Tuesday, Oct. 13 - UMW - 10:00 a.m. in Fellowship Hall - Sunday, Sept. 13 - choir practice after church Sunday, Oct. 18 - choir practice after church CHARGE CONFERENCE - 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15 - UMW - 10:00 a.m. in Fellowship Hall - Hostesses are T.J. If you can look at the sunset and smile, then you still have hope. If you can see the good in other people, then you still have hope. If you meet new people with a trace of excitement and optimism, then you still have hope. If you still give people the benefit of the doubt, then you still have hope. If you can’t get it to the event, please let Leatrice Haley know and arrangements will be made to get it there. If the suffering in others still fills you with pain, then you still have hope. If you still watch love stories or want endings to be happy, then you still have hope. If you can look at the past and smile, then you still have hope. If you still offer you hand of friendship to those who have touched your life, then you still have hope. If you refuse to let a friendship die, or accept that it must end, then you still have vey much hope.. Hope see the invisible, feels the intangible, and achieves the impossible.
