As of April, it will be easier than ever to make the change as the entry level Property Consultant and Assistant Property Manager courses have been amalgamated into a single Property Representative course. The new course takes about two weeks and will prepare students to sit the entry exam with the Property Agents Board. According to the Real Estate Institute of Tasmania, those who work hard and have an appetite to succeed can rise through the ranks faster than in many other jobs. As the only organisation dedicated to real estate training, the REIT currently trains about 1500 agents, property managers and consultants annually. The institute also delivers a traineeship, Certificate III, IV and a diploma in Property Services that can see a student move from the entry level course to a diploma in two years. REIT chief executive Mark Berry said the new course would enable students to move straight into selling and leasing once they have completed the exam. “Some people prefer to sit the appropriate course and the Property Agents Board exam before seeking employment while others find employment then sit the course and property agents exam,” Mr Berry said. “It’s a job that gives you a lot of autonomy, you become your own business – you’re really the master of your own destiny,” he said.
