LAUNCH YOUR PROPERTY CAREER
On course
to be your
own boss
WITH the local real estate
market continuing to perform
solidly, the time could be right
to consider a career in
property.
As of April, it will be easier
than ever to make the change
as the entry level Property
Consultant and Assistant
Property Manager courses
have been amalgamated into a
single Property Representative
course.
The new course takes about
two weeks and will prepare
students to sit the entry exam
with the Property Agents
Board.
According to the Real
Estate Institute of Tasmania,
those who work hard and have
an appetite to succeed can rise
through the ranks faster than
in many other jobs.
As the only organisation
dedicated to real estate
training, the REIT currently
trains about 1500 agents,
property managers and
consultants annually.
The institute also delivers a
traineeship, Certificate III, IV
and a diploma in Property
Services that can see a student
move from the entry level
course to a diploma in two
years.
REIT chief executive Mark
Berry said the new course
would enable students to
move straight into selling and
leasing once they have
completed the exam.
“Some people prefer to sit
the appropriate course and the
Property Agents Board exam
before seeking employment
while others find employment
then sit the course and
property agents exam,” Mr
Berry said.
“It’s a job that gives you a
lot of autonomy, you become
your own business – you’re
really the master of your own
destiny,” he said.
Jobs with Roberts open doors
WITH more than 150 years
of experience, over 100
employees and 18 offices it’s
exciting times for Roberts
Real Estate.
However, Roberts’
Education and Training state
manager Khan Dick said
there was only one real
priority for the agency widely
regarded as one of the state’s
premier agencies.
“We pride ourselves on
providing education and
training to our staff,” Mr
Dick said.
“A lot of agencies see it as
a tick in the box but we see it
as an opportunity to help our
staff achieve their best
whether it is administration,
sales or property
management,” he said.
The agency runs more
than a dozen training
sessions each year and works
closely with the Real Estate
Institute of Tasmania while
also running independent
education sessions to ensure
that staff have every
opportunity to achieve the
best for themselves and
clients.
“Training is essential in
our industry from legislation
and policy through to law
and ethics, it is so important
that our staff are at the
forefront of the industry,” Mr
Dick said.

Professionals considering
a career path with a major
real estate agency have the
flexibility to work in dozens
of locations, without having
to travel too far from home, if
they sign up with Roberts
Real Estate.
With careers paths as
varied as property
management, property
consultancy and
administration, Mr Dick said
all you needed was the right
attitude and there was no
limit to what could be
achieved. “We fund a
Diploma in Property
Services through the REIT
for those who go above and
beyond in their work and
training,” he said.
The diploma prepares
students for strategic
business planning,
marketing, risk management
and team building.
“A career in real estate is
really what you make of it —
the sky is the limit,” he said.
“If you’re looking for
something different, you’re
an excellent problem solver
and you’ve got the right
attitude then a career with
Roberts could be for you.”
“If everyone is moving
forward together, then
success takes care of itself”.
