De pannenkoekenboot
Short Czechs
On monday evening, we went to the
pannenkoekenboot
(pancakeship)
with our exchange student from
Prague.
The ship is established in the
harbour of Almere-Haven. They sell
pancakes, what is a typical dutch
dish. It was an all you can eat
restaurant so most of the people ate
3 or 4 pancakes.
It was raining a lot that evening so
Short movies. We saw six of them.
On Wednesday we went to the movie
theater. Biooko, the Czech movie
theater, was slightly different from
ours. For example, the seats. We
have rows with luxurious seats next
to each other. But the seats in this
theater were just random chairs.
There were some beach chairs and
some fatboys. And optically, it
seemed bigger than ours. There
were three animated movies, and
three non-fiction movies. We started
of with a non-fition movie called 'Little
Secret'. It was inspired by a boy that
was too afraid of telling his mother
what happened to him. So he told
her that he was attacked by a group
of Roma. It ended in a big
misunderstanding. The next movie
was 'The Little Cousteau', about a
little boy who really wanted to make
a deep-sea trip in a snow-covered
city. After this one, we saw L.H. This
was about a university where one of
the students wrote things on the wall
with shit. A police inspector
investigates this case, but the real
perpretator remains unknown. We
also saw 'Alien', about travelling to
foreign countries. And we saw 'V.I.P.
- Vietnamese Important People',
about young Vietnamese who want
to develop their talents. The last
movie we saw was 'Mythopolis',
where ancient Greek creatures come
to life. And apparently, they have the
same problems as we do. All these
movies were interesting but I mostly
enjoyed the first one. 'Little Secret'
had a very true story, where we can
all learn something from.
Little holland: The foreigners visit
Madurodam.
On the fourth day of our
exchange
program
the
foreigners and their exchange
partners went to Madurodam.
Madurodam is a miniature park
and tourist attraction in the
Scheveningen district of The
Hague,
Netherlands.
The
visitors enjoyed the replicas of
dutch castles, public buildings
and large Industrial projects as
found at various locations in
the country. They saw the
famous buildings and places in
The Netherlands in only a few
hours. The Russians and
Czechs were very impressed by
the replica of Paleis het loo, an
imitation of Versailles in Paris,
France that was originally made
in the 17th century, Now the
replica of the palace can be
admired in Madurodam. The
weather was beautiful which
were important because the
Museum is outdoors. The
foreigners enjoyed the activities
such as closing the dike and
helping in the port of Rotterdam
course. The souvenir shop had
much appreciation as well. The
foreigners bought little clogs,
dutch candy and little versions
of mills. During the visit to
Madurodam the students of the
Russian, Czech and Dutch
schools got a good impression
of what The Netherlands are
like. They could see that The
Netherlands are more than just
cheeses and Tulips. they saw
that the Netherlands have a lot
of art and architecture although
it is such a small country. They
saw our Mills, or Clogs, our
cheeses and most important
our beautiful palaces and
Buildings all at the same place.
In one day they could get a
good impression of a whole
country which is rich of art and
have a lot of Industrial projects.
That's the beauty of visiting
Madurodam
Maybe you're wondering about
how is it possible. Then we
should go back into the history.
For hundreds of years were
formed the traditions and
cultures. And those things are
still important in these days.
We are living in Prague and we
have a chance to try Dutch
cuisine and compare it to ours.
Basically Czech Republic isn't so
international as Holland and
many Czechs don't like to accept
another cultures and they are
still eating dumplings. As we
have seen and heard Dutch
people are constantly innovating
their cuisine but they also don't
forget the traditions.
Let's
write
more
specifically
we're glad that we could sit inside.
In the summer, some people sit
outside on the deck of the ship.
It looks like a real pirate ship from
the inside and from the outside it
looks like a huge sailing ship.
We have enjoyed the evening and
had a great time. Also the people
from Prague really liked the
pancakes.
What to do in
Russia, Prague or
the
Netherlands :
Prague:
1 Charles Bridge
2 Prague Castle
3 Petrintower
4 medieval restaurant
Russia:
1 Belkino
2 Kostroma
3 Visit Cathedrals
4 shopping center
The Netherlands:
1 Amsterdam (Dam square,
Kalverstreet, etc.)
2 De Zaanse schans
3 Keukenhof
4 Scheveningen or Zandvoort
Belkino: me thinks
yes.
Eet Smakelijk!
Dank je wel.
All over the world are BIG
differences in everything. And in
food also. Even though the
Czech
Republic
and
the
Netherlands are less than 1000
kilometers distant from each
other their cuisines aren't so
similar.
The exchange Page 2
Czech people don't eat so much
fish and seafood (maybe it's
because we don't have sea).
Instead of fish eat Czechs more
pork and beef.
Another point is bakery
products. For us is the typical
Dutch bread like a "toast bread",
our "normal" bread is different.
And we don't eat so many
baquettes and sandwiches.
Also Czech people prefer warm
lunch and don't eat so many
sweet things. We are jealous of
your delicious Holland cheese.
We have for you a few
examples which aren't in the
Czech Republic so usual as
here : Herring, peanut butter and
pancakes. And things which are
new for us? Kroket, hutspot,
stroopwafel, vla and sprinkles.
But there are also things which
are unique for Czechs as:
In the freezing cold of great
Mother Russia, hundreds of
students arrive at Belkino for a
fun day in the snow. Belkino,
famous for it's sleigh rides, is
very
popular
among
the
Russians in Yaroslavl. After a
long busride, a five kilometer
walk through the snow we
receive instructions and cards
for
the
attractions
and
consumptions.
Following
Russian tradition, we have lunch
with Russian tea and a
traditional pirozhki (cake). Sleigh
rides, gun shooting (?!) and
simply having a good time in the
snow: the possibilities in Belkino
are endless. We consider this a
very suitable excursion for Dutch
people since they haven't had a
any snow this year, Since we're
already talking about snow and
cold! How is it possible to
experience such cold (-30
degrees) and not freeze?
Russians are used to it but
Dutch people most certainly
aren't. To Belkino, the Dutch
people wore thermo-leggings,
ski-pants,
ski-socks
and

Sleigh rides in Belkino, Russia
Russians,
people
who
value
traditions, hospitality and their
community, tended to give us a lot
of food and this day was no
exception. They brought bars of
chocolate (the famous Russian
chocolate: Alienka), marshmallows,
cookies and bread. No expenses
were spared to give the Dutch
people the time of their lives. Going
to Russia was an amazing
experience for the guests from the
Netherlands, since the culture
differences were so evident. Despite
these differences, the Dutch and the
Russians learned a lot from each
other. We are so grateful that we
were able to be a part of this
