It is our pleasure to announce that on Friday, September 8, 2017, the 16th Annual Gala of the
Arts will once again take place in the Grand Ballroom at Navy Pier.
As the Hot August Nights give way to cool September Morns, we hope you will turn on your
Heartlight and mark your calendars for what is sure to be a sparkling event, as Gala of the
Arts features SUPER DIAMOND – The Neil Diamond Tribute. Gather your friends for a fun filled
evening of art, singing, dancing and fundraising on behalf of our friends and neighbors most
in need.
All proceeds from the Gala of the Arts will benefit the Catholic Charities Emergency Assistance
Program for the city of Chicago and surrounding communities in Cook and Lake counties. The
Emergency Assistance Department provides assistance to individuals and families whose lives
have been disrupted by unplanned events such as domestic crisis, fire, unemployment, or
relocation, or who for any reason are in need of emergency food and/or clothing. This assistance
is provided regardless of race, religion, nationality or gender. Without the assistance provided
by Catholic Charities, some of the most vulnerable people in our area would have nowhere else
to turn for basic human needs. With demand for services continuing to grow, Catholic Charities
needs help more than ever to support these vital programs.

More than 500 of Chicago’s philanthropic,
civic and community leaders will gather
in the Grand Ballroom at Navy Pier.
The art show will feature professional
artists as well as photographs taken
by Catholic Charities clients through
the “After Supper: Visions of My Life
Program.” 50% to 100% of art sales will
be donated to Catholic Charities by these
generous artists.
Event includes cocktail reception, art
show and sale, silent auction, dinner, and
entertainment.

EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE DEPARTMENT
Catholic Charities Emergency Assistance Department provides basic human
needs. Food is the most requested basic need. Other services include
emergency financial assistance, benefits screening, clothing, emergency
shelter, short-term case management, advocacy, and referrals.
The Illinois unemployment rate is currently among the highest in the
nation. The majority of jobs that pay family-supporting wages now require
some amount of postsecondary education, training, or certification. This
creates a significant obstacle for our clients who have less education or work
experience.
Last year, the Emergency Assistance Department served 2.2 million meals
through our nine food pantries and screened nearly 1,500 people for the
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
Your contribution gives people in need — people who live and work in your
community — help and hope.
