VI. What we learn from Daniel 10 about Yahweh, prayer, & spiritual battles – 1. Yahweh instantly heard Daniel’s prayer (10:12) – Yahweh instantly hears prayers because He is all knowing and all present. Living in EXILE…Daniel 10 I. Theme of Daniel – Yahweh’s Sovereignty to bring about His Kingdom – 2. Yahweh sent the angel because Daniel was humble and sought understanding (10:11-12) – Yahweh responds to prayers of humility, seeking understanding from God. 3. But a demon delayed the angel’s coming for 21 days until Michael the archangel fought by his side (10:13) – angels & demons (like humans) have free will. 4. After a spiritual battle, the angel gave Daniel understanding (10:14-21) – about the “great conflict” for which Daniel was lamenting for 3 weeks. 5. But first, Daniel needed to be strengthened and re-assured (vv. 18-19) – angels are ministering spirits to give us strength (Hebrews 1:14 & Matthew 4:11). VII. Our struggle is Spiritual, which directly affects the Physical – Ephesians 6:10 II. March 10, 2013 Israel broke the Covenant with Yahweh & was taken into Exile in shame… In Exile, Yahweh worked through Daniel to bring about the LORD’s fame… Yahweh worked through prophecy to restore Israel in preparation of the Christ’s coming… Yahweh worked through prophecy to declare Christ would be cut off… Yahweh worked through prophecy to prepare us for a great conflict… We know the great conflict will precede the final establishing of the nd Kingdom of God through Christ Jesus at His 2 Coming... Daniel’s final vision of a great conflict – (10:1 introduces chapters 10-12) Daniel 10:1 “In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a word was revealed to Daniel, who was named Belteshazzar. And the word was true, and it was a great conflict. And he understood the word and had understanding of the vision.” In 536 BC – Daniel had a vision of a “great conflict” = great war 11 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full 12 armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual 13 forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground… How do I win these battles? III. After seeing the vision, Daniel lamented for 3 weeks – (10:2-9) Daniel 10:2 3 “In those days I, Daniel, was mourning for three weeks. I ate no delicacies, no meat or wine entered my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, for the full three weeks.” Mourning = lamenting, which involves prayer, petition, & modified fasting Daniel 10:4 VIII. The Key = humility and drawing near to God – James 4:6 But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” 7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. 8 “On the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I was standing on the bank 5 of the great river (that is, the Tigris) I lifted up my eyes and looked, and behold, a man clothed in linen, with a belt of fine gold from Uphaz around his 6 waist. His body was like beryl, his face like the appearance of lightning, his eyes like flaming torches, his arms and legs like the gleam of burnished bronze, 7 and the sound of his words like the sound of a multitude. And I, Daniel, alone saw the vision, for the men who were with me did not see the vision, but a great trembling fell upon them, and they fled to hide themselves.” Daniel saw the angel. His friends sensed the angel’s presence and fled. Daniel 10:8 “So I was left alone and saw this great vision, and no strength was left in 9 me. My radiant appearance was fearfully changed, and I retained no strength. Then I heard the sound of his words, and as I heard the sound of his words, I fell on my face in deep sleep with my face to the ground.” But I will tell you what is inscribed in the book of truth: there is none who contends by my side against these except Michael, your prince.” V. There is a cosmic battle between the Kingdoms of Light & Darkness: Daniel was left alone & was emotionally overwhelmed, fearful, & fainted. Colossians 1:12 IV. The angel explained he was delayed 21 days – (10:10-21) “…and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share 13 in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of 14 the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Daniel 10:10 And behold, a hand touched me and set me trembling on my hands and 11 knees. And he said to me, “O Daniel, man greatly loved, understand the words that I speak to you, and stand upright, for now I have been sent to you.” And when he had spoken this word to me, I stood up trembling. The angel reassured Daniel he is “greatly loved” = “man of preciousness.” Did you know you are precious to God, bought by Jesus? Yahweh (The LORD the Creator) The Kingdom of DARKNESS The Kingdom of LIGHT Lucifer (Satan – head of “gods”) Why the delay? Michael (Archangel – head of “angels”) Daniel 10:12 “Then he said to me, “Fear not, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand and humbled yourself before your God, your words 13 have been heard, and I have come because of your words. The prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days, but Michael, one of the chief 14 princes, came to help me, for I was left there with the kings of Persia, and came to make you understand what is to happen to your people in the latter days. For the vision is for days yet to come.” Prince of Persia Prince of Greece Prince Allah Persia Prince of Babylon Prince Moroni Greece Prince of Tyre Brahma Babylon Tyre Angel Angel Angel (Messengers & Ministering Spirits) Israel 15 When he had spoken to me according to these words, I [Daniel] turned my 16 face toward the ground and was mute. And behold, one in the likeness of the children of man touched my lips. Then I opened my mouth and spoke. I said to him who stood before me, “O my lord, by reason of the vision pains have come 17 upon me, and I retain no strength. How can my lord's servant talk with my lord? For now no strength remains in me, and no breath is left in me.” 18 “Again one having the appearance of a man touched me and strengthened 19 me. And he said, “O man greatly loved, fear not, peace be with you; be strong and of good courage.” And as he spoke to me, I was strengthened and 20 said, “Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me.” Then he said, “Do you know why I have come to you? But now I will return to fight against the 21 prince of Persia; and when I go out, behold, the prince of Greece will come.
