FORT PIERCE - Ryan Kelly of Vero Beach broke away from the pack in the final mile
and Stuart’s Michael Rosato was the only one who could stay with Kelly as the duo finished onetwo in the tenth annual Harbor Branch 5K Run/Walk held Saturday morning at the Harbor
Branch Oceanographic Institution. Kelly covered the 3.1-mile loop course in 17 minutes, 23
seconds while Rosato finished two seconds back. Lucas Simari of Fort Pierce was third in 17:56.
Dale Ruby , 43, of Boca Raton finished fifth overall to win the Masters (age 40 and over) title in
18:40 .
In the women’s race, youth triumphed as 12-year-old Grace Thomas won the Overall title
in 21:56 , followed by Chelsea Ellis of Port St. Lucie in 22:48 and Loxahatchee’s Toni Medvetz
in 23:53. Medvetz, 42, won the Masters title for her efforts.
A total of 173 runners completed the event. All proceeds from the race went to benefit
the educational and research programs at Harbor Branch.
