Message from our General Manager
We’re in Quarter 4 of 2015 - where has the year gone? We’re 11 weeks away from
Christmas and counting down to celebrate what has been a successful year at HydroVac,
however we not slowing down just yet, in fact, this is usually one of our busiest times as
clients in the hospitality industry require servicing and maintenance to cope with the
festive season and in our Waste Water division, residents needing checks to ensure their
units are ready to handle the extra showers, washing loads and dishes!
As the General Manager, I usually start to reflect back on the year gone, particularly as
2015 has been a constant busy for us, providing services to not only our long existing
clients who have continued to support us over the years but also our new clients that we
hope provide excellent service for years to come. We have a strong value ethic at
HydroVac, therefore value all our customers from residential through to our large
commercial clients.
We pride ourselves on high level quality service and our staff are always happy to help
whenever and wherever possible. Our team of experts in the field aim to provide solutions
that others cannot or would not attempt which sets us apart from our competitors. We
like to consider ourselves an innovative company and we love a good challenge and being
able to brainstorm holistically with the team to achieve the results our clients are looking
for.
Our CCTV, Hydro Flushing and Hydro-Excavation have performed exceptionally well this
year firstly due to the investment we have made in these areas by having the latest
equipment and technology but most important, the people behind the equipment who
provide the service. Their hard work and dedication has been a key factor to our success
and we appreciate what our staff do whether they are performing on the frontline or in
the office, I’m proud to say that I have “ONE GREAT TEAM” working for me.
We have been furiously working on updating our website and this will be set to go live
sometime late November. This will have a fresh new look and will profile our services plus
an app has been developed making our website mobile and smart device friendly, as like
most companies now, online reach is where the world is moving. HydroVac has come a
long way in the last 11 years and we encourage you to check us out when this has been
completed.
“Few people get to do what they want to do in life. Be one of them” and
GO THE ALL BLACKS!!!!

Waste Water
By Justine Neale – Waste Water & Health and Safety Manager
ANTS! and the damage they can cause to your Waste Water tank electrical system.
From time to time our technicians come across ant infestation in
electrical control boxes at the waste water system.
The damage ants can do can be very costly. While ants are omnivorous
they do not feast on electrical equipment but do damage by forming
bridges between electrical contacts and shorting them out. They can
also cause damage by nest building - the dirt and debris can cause
moisture build up in close proximity to wires and controls.
This moisture eventually leads to corrosion and electrical system
damage. Another common problem with ants in
electrical units happens when ants become exposed to an open
switching mechanism and get shocked. When shocked, the ants begin
a behaviour which releases pheromones to attract more worker ants to
come to their rescue. The problem is that when arriving ants come into
contact with shocked ants, they get shocked too, causing a continual
build up around switches and controls, leading to malfunction.
During the service, the technician will eradicate live ants with
insecticide, remove build-up of any debris, and the service report will
recommend monitoring by the client after laying ant bait as a
preventative measure.

Operations
By Jason Koenen – Operations Manager
From big to bigger
With great enthusiasm, we are proud to announce that the two latest additions to our fleet are now both fully operational and on the
road in and around Auckland; you may have already had one out on your site over the last couple of weeks.
When it comes to size, they go from one extreme to the other but both these trucks in their capacity, come fully equipped and ready
for any job. The smaller of the two, the Hino, branded HVAC6 is a versatile truck that is good for cesspits, grease converters and
difficult to access areas such as underground carparks and small residential driveways.
Our Scania, HVAC8 is large and built for major work and in particular Hydro-Excavation. This addition to our fleet means we can hold
up to 9,000 litres in the waste tank and carries 4,500 litres of water. Coupled by a powerful 4,000 cfm pump, HVAC8 holds more which
saves on unnecessary disposal and travel time which makes your project cost efficient.
HVAC8 now gives us two big rigs with the same power and capacity and as the demand for these trucks are very high, hydroexcavation is becoming more the preferred method of excavating when exposing assets and utilities with no fear of damage. For
smaller jobs, our small trucks can also hydro-excavate therefore we consider our fleet fit for purpose.
For a non-obligation quote, contact our office on (09) 417 0112 or our Sales Representative Rowan Murray on 027 453 8008 to discuss
your requirements.

Rob Smith
One of the very first employees of HydroVac, Rob has been with the company since
the beginning.
Nick-named the “hose whisperer”, Rob has managed to help on sites where hoses
have become “stuck” in challenging situations. Rob has helped out in the Waste
Water division in the past where in 2103, he was seconded full-time in the division
for 12 months.
Over the last few months, Waste Water has increased their client base across
Auckland and with an additional 500+ clients, this has meant a demand in Service
Technicians therefore Rob fitted perfectly in, as not only has he worked for
HydroVac for 10+ years, he has also had extensive experience in the waste water
environment.
Born in England, like most clever Brits, Rob moved to NZ when he was 7 years old
and lived in many parts of what Rob describes, as a beautiful country and home,
however metropolitan Auckland is where Rob has settled. Previously employed as
a painter, Rob has 3 sons whom all live in NZ and 10 grandchildren. Rob is an avid
music lover and enjoy sounds from all genre from rock to reggae. In his spare time,
he spends like all dotting grandfathers – with the young’uns!
