The Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time
“So I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven
because she has shown great love.”
In this Sunday’s Gospel Jesus shares with his dinner
host, that with great love, our sins are forgiven.
The Pharisee in the story
looked down on the woman
who came uninvited and
began washing Jesus’ feet
with her tears. The
Pharisee, sure of his
position and stature, was
horrified that Jesus would allow this woman to be
near him, much less touch him. Jesus knew this and
reminded the Pharisee of his failure to be a gracious
host with no kiss, and no water to wash his feet. I
don’t think Jesus said that to make the Pharisee feel
bad, or guilty, but rather to enlighten him.
It is how we treat another that defines us, not by our
position in life, not by what family you are born into,
or whom you married. It is in our relationship with
others; in our willingness to forgive easily and to love
greatly, that breaks opens our hearts and allows the
grace of God to pour forth.
On this Father’s Day Sunday may we remember to
forgive easily, and love greatly, and in so doing you
will find your joy! And may the joy of Christ’s peace
be with you all!

Pearls of Wisdom
Dear Friends,
Last month we celebrated Mother’s
Day, and this Sunday we celebrate
Father’s Day!
Even though Father’s Day originated
in the U.S. in 1910, I know the Celts
would have enjoyed such a celebration! The Celtic
people are people from England, Scotland, Wales,
Ireland, and to a certain extent people from Northern
France. The Celts go back to the time of Christ, and
they loved rituals and celebrating. The Celts loved
words, poetry, spiritual values, the arts, music, dance,
and more.
They also loved the etymology of words, i.e. how
words come to mean what they mean. For example,
the word pater and mater are the Latin words for
father and mother. The Latin “pa” is a root syllable
for “life giver” and the Latin “ma” is a root syllable
for one who “carries life.” I love etymologies, as they
bring us back to the beginning of language. When we
sign a letter, we may say “cordially yours.” Literally
that means I send this to you “with all my heart.”
Cordially is from the Latin word “Cor” meaning
heart.
I love it all and I love learning as most of us do. In
short, let’s think that whenever I use the “mother” or
“father” it’s not just a word, but also a concept, a
whole thought.
Take care of yourself during the hot weather…maybe
even write some poetry, a song, or sing a song. Love
life, fall in love with life, and enjoy, that is bring joy to
your life. Even in the heat our church will be open
everyday. Come and pray with us!
Happy Summer Blessings,
Fr. Ned
