Thursday Notes April 14, 2016

Thursday Notes
April 14, 2016
All are invited to join the students at the 8:00 a.m. Parish Liturgy next Wednesday, April 20th.
Once again I am asking for your cooperation in ensuring that your child arrives promptly.
Please keep our 2nd grade students in your prayers, as they will be participating in a Eucharistic
Workshop Day next Wednesday, April 20th in preparation of their First Holy Communion.
As we approach the 100th Anniversary of our Parish, there are many opportunities for you to
share in this celebration. If you haven’t had the opportunity to schedule your picture for the
Pictorial Directory, this will be your last chance to do so. April 24, 2016 will be the final date to
have your picture taken in Borowczyk Hall. Please call 1-800-638-9107, ext. 229 to schedule
your photography appointment. You can also be part of a permanent remembrance by taking out
an ad in the Anniversary Ad Book, or purchase a leaf from the “Tree of Life” in which you can
honor loved ones who are living or deceased. Both Ad Book and Tree of Life transactions can be
completed at the parish rectory.
Please tell your neighbors and friends who are considering a school for their child, that
St. Constance School will be hosting an Open House next week Tuesday, April 19, 2016 from
5:00-6:30 p.m. Please share the wonderful things our school has to offer. Don’t forget about the
School Board incentive of $250.00 applicable to your tuition for any registering family who
names you as the referring family.
As you know, the due date for re-enrollment for the 2016-2017 school year was April 4, 2016. If
you haven’t already done so, we ask that you please do so. This is also a reminder for you that
the 2016-2017 Financial Commitment Forms are due by tomorrow, April 15, 2016.
Please be advised that Mid-Trimester Reports are included in today’s folder for students in
grades 1-8. Please return a signed copy by Monday, April 18, 2016.
As we conclude our week of Aspire Testing for students in grades 3-8, please note that
achievement results will be shared with you later in the spring. Thank you to our moderators,
Mrs. Kelly Mikrut and Mrs. Lydia Lowder.
Now that we are nearing the end of April, this is to remind you that your 15 hours of volunteer
service or the $350.00 fee is due on or before Friday, April 29, 2016. Please note that no partial
hours will be accepted. Any hours completed after April 29, 2016 will be applied towards the
2016-2017 school year.
Summer is just around the corner. What are your plans to keep your children entertained and
busy learning? Have you heard about our St. Constance Summer Camp? It is offering a variety
of spiritual, academic, and fun filled activities including Field Trips, Guest Speakers and
Presentations, Themes of the Day/Week, with optional Before /After Care available. Due to
previously scheduled renovations/maintenance at our facility this summer, we will once again be
holding our camp at St. Rosalie’s Parish, 6750 W. Montrose Ave., Harwood Heights, Illinois.
60706. Best of all, our camp will be managed and coordinated by our very own certified
teachers. Schedules are flexible, so choose the days/weeks you need before they fill up! Please
see the camp information sheet or visit www.scsummercamp.weebly.com, Facebook, or
Instagram for more details.
Thank you to everyone for their support during Autism Awareness Week. I would like to
acknowledge and thank our Student Council and Moderators Ms. Jenny Blecka and
Ms. Katrina Odrobina, for coordinating the events for us last week. A total profit of $573.00 was
earned for Autism Speaks. A more detailed summary is included for you in today’s folder.
As you know, we are offering 3 Special Lunches during the spring trimester. If you would like to
place an order for your child and haven’t already done so, please return your form with
selections and payment by Tuesday, April 26th.
We are beginning to accumulate many items in our lost and found department. If your child is
missing an item, please stop by the school office to see if any belong to you. It is always a good
practice to label items with your child’s name, so that we may return things to the rightful owner.
Have a pleasant weekend.
Sincerely,
Eva M. Panczyk
Thank
You!
Last week the Student Council of St. Constance School led
the entire student body, teachers, and staff in "Lighting it
Up Blue" for Autism Awareness. Our enthusiastic Student
Council officers and board members started off the week
decorating the front of our school with blue ribbon, signs, and
blue solar lights. Autism Awareness wristbands were sold and
can be worn throughout the month of April.
On Tuesday, April 5th, the Student Council had a lemonade
sale at lunch, along with delicious chocolate covered pretzel
rods (compliments of Mrs. Wojciechowski)! The next day, each
classroom decorated their own large puzzle piece and formed a
giant awareness mural in the hallway of the main entrance. We
concluded the week by wearing blue to “Light it Up Blue”.
Please stop by at night to see St. Constance School "Lighting it
up Blue" with our blue solar lights!
All donations and money made throughout the week, will go
to the Autism Speaks Foundation. We would like to thank
all the families and friends of St. Constance School for their
generous donations! Together, we raised $573.00 for Autism
Speaks! We would also like to thank Mrs. Wojciechowski for
making the delicious chocolate covered pretzel rods!

THE BARD & THE SWORD – DISCOVERING SHAKESPEARE BY ACTING!
Calling all 5th*, 6th, 7th & 8th graders for the 2016/17 After School Enrichment/Club! Come and discover
the plays of William Shakespeare in the most exciting way possible: by getting up on your feet and
acting out scenes (comic, tragic and historic), battles and sword fights from some of his thirty-eight plays.
Working together, you and your classmates will choose edited versions of plays or scenes, research past
performances of your character, decide on stage directions, costuming, sound, etc. There are parts both
big and small, plus some opportunities for directing. This workshop will be taught by Mrs. Mary Raithel.
It will conclude with a performance. (Place, audience and time to be determined by your principal.)
Some of what you may discover on this voyage could include:
 Why Macbeth believes he’s invincible; why Lady Macbeth sleepwalks. (Macbeth)
 Why Puck says “Lord, what fools these mortals be!” (A Midsummer Night’s Dream)
 The reason Malvolio makes himself look so ridiculous in front of Lady Olivia. (Twelfth Night)
 How the English warrior king, Henry V persuades his soldiers to fight an apparently hopeless
battle against the superior French Army. (Henry V)
 The cause of Othello’s unreasonable jealousy towards Desdemona. (Othello)
 Why Henry IV believes that “Uneasy is the head that wears a crown.” (Henry IV, Part )
 The hilarity resulting when two sets of identical twins, separated at birth, meet each other
accidently as adults. (A Comedy of Errors)
 How the ordinary working man, Nick Bottom, gets turned into a donkey and why Titania, the
Fairy Queen, falls in love with him. (A Midsummer Night’s Dream)
 Did Richard III murder his two young nephews in order to become king? (King Richard III)
AND, which Shakespearean characters speak the following immortal lines:
 “All that glitters is not gold . . . “
 “A rose by any other name would smell as sweet . . . “
 “All the perfumes of Arabia will not sweeten this little hand . . . “
 “Knock, knock, who’s there . . . ?”
 “Double, double toil & trouble, fire bur n & cauldron bubble . . . “
 “There’s daggers in men’s smiles . . . “
 “Neither a borrower nor a lender be . . . “
AND, examine some of the plays’ themes:
 What price is to be paid for power?
 How does a good leader unite his or her people—and why don’t we have a King or Queen?
 In what ways has the lot of girls improved—or not improved—since Shakespeare’s time?
 Intergenerational: Rebelling against parental authority; choosing the right type of friends.
 The tragic consequences of prejudice, stereotyping and hatred.
IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS WORKSHOP AS AN AFTER-SCHOOL
CHOICE NEXT YEAR, PLEASE SIGN YOUR NAME AND HAVE YOUR PARENTS SIGN AND
RETURN AS SOON AS POSSIBLE TO YOUR HOMEROOM TEACHER. THANK YOU!
