NEWS FROM CAMP MAY 2017 Meet Your Camp Unit Directors! We are so excited to introduce you to our four Unit Directors this year. Charlie, Dayanit, Ana, and Kyle are all trained in youth development and are looking forward to sharing their energy and enthusiasm with your Campers this year. GianCarlo “Charlie” Onorati – Explorers Director Charlie has been with the YMCA for nearly a year but he is no stranger to youth development! After graduating from UC Santa Cruz in 2013, he went on to teach Science at outdoor schools throughout California. He loves being outdoors and enjoys getting students and campers excited about being outside as well! Upon moving to San Francisco, he found that after-school programs were the perfect transition for him. He ran the after-school program at the Boys and Girls Tenderloin Clubhouse and just finished a school year at New Traditions Elementary School. He is excited to discover the open spaces in the city with the Explorers this summer, and he is looking forward to sharing the STEAM activities he has planned for the campers. Dayanit Lima – Adventurers Director Dayanit has been with the YMCA for three years with her most recent experience being the Rosa Parks After-School Site Coordinator with the Buchanan YMCA. Since she was a teenager, she has enjoyed working with youth and children. She is most excited about getting to know her campers this year and going on cool field trips with them! She has some awesome games and activities planned for the Adventurers this year. Dayanit’s hobbies include music and cooking, and she hopes that by the time summer camp is over, our campers will be either awesome dancers or very talented little chefs! Ana Lima – Discoverers Director Ana has grown up with the YMCA. Her career in youth development started when she was just sixteen years old as a volunteer Counselor-In-Training. Since then Ana has spent seven years in the youth development field and she is excited to return to summer camp again this year as the Discoverers Director. Ana is excited to meet the new campers and looking forward to all the fun field trips she has planned. She hopes that, like her, the Discoverers will have the best experience of their lives at camp! Kyle Abbas – Sports Director Kyle comes to the YMCA with five years of early childhood as well as teen youth development. He has a passion for sports including basketball and baseball. He is excited to share his passion and energy with our Sports Campers this summer. His goal is to help all kids gain confidence and improve their athletic skills while maintaining a fun and active environment. In addition to his love for traditional sports, his hobbies also include car racing and film-making.
