Mrs. Veltre's second grade class at Tentre Ave. saluted February
as Dental Health Month by performing an original play entitled
The Trial of the Dental Health Bandits. The play and its dental tunes
were written by Centre Avenue's own Eleanor Sussman.
As we enter the courtroom, the Dental Health Bandits who are
the nurse-teacher, Dentists Crest and Smile, Candy, Mrs. WDJker.
Tina Toothbrush and Tommy Toothpaste are accused of contributing to Terry's toothache. Second grade lawyers Jason Owen and
Jeffrey Gurge argued convincing cases before Judge Michael Fusco
and the jury.
Following the testimony of each of the bandits, the jury weighed
the evidence and found the defendants - Not Guilty! In the end
Terry, as played by Eleni Arniotis, learned an important dental
health lesson that teeth are precious and in the words of her song
are "her own responsibility."

RHAME AVENUE INTERNATIONAL LUNCHEON
Mr. Schlange's third grade class at Rhame Ave. School gave an
International Luncheon and parents were invited to participate.
The luncheon was an introduction to a social studies unit on Man
and His Surroundings and was an outgrowth of a discussion of eating
customs in different parts of the world, including how and what
people eat and how the eating customs of the Europeans differ from
those of the Chinese and Arabians.
The students researched their backgrounds and drew flags and
placemats representing the different ethnic cultures. Then each child
brought in a dish to represent the culture. Before eating, the class
located the countries on the map and told some pertinent information about each country.
The food was delicious and represented many countries. From
Italy, Angelo Musto brought in Eggplant Parmigiana, Joe Catalan©
brought in homemade Italian pastries, and Richard DeMatteo
brought in Ziti. Jere Murphy and Billy Griffiths brought in Irish
Soda Bread to represent Ireland. Representing Puerto Rico,
Geraldine Treglia brought in chicken and rice. Vasso Halatas brought
in grape leaves stuffed with rice, a Greek dish. Atilla Novagradecz
brought in a Hungarian chocolate, coconut dessert.
Principal Ralph Grandinetti stated that the activity was truly an
enjoyable culinary treat and a valuable learning experience for all.

The 15 th Annual Passover
Demonstration Seder at St.
John's University on Thursday,
March 24th, at 7 p.m. in St.
Albert's Hall Cafeteria, will feature traditional and modern
Jewish religious and cultural
symbols. The purpose of the
model Seder is to provide an
opportunity for all to grow in
appreciation
of the Jewish
rehgious tradition.
Scholars continue to debate
whether or not The Last Supper
of Jesus with his disciples, which
was the origin of the Christian
Eucharist, was in fact a Passover meal. In any case, the
gospels of Matthew, Mark and
Luke present The Last Supper
in a Passover context, while
John's Gospel and St. Paul's
writings interpret Jesus in light
of thePassover Lamb.
Reserved seat tickets at $5.50
per person are available through
advanced payment made to the
Treasurer's office before March
18th. For further information,
