form and payment need to be in the 4-H office by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 19, 2016.
Remember these entries must go through the 4-H office so don’t mail them directly to Dallas.
Families invest a lot of time and money into these projects so don’t miss the deadline.
Entry forms available : http://bigtex.com/livestock/livestockshow/

t-shirt fund raiser this year.

Major Show Calf Scramble
Do you want a chance to be in the Calf Scramble at
the Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo in Austin, Ft. Worth
Livestock Show, San Antonio Livestock Show or
Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in 2017? If so,
August and September are the months to sign up for
this opportunity. All you need to do right away is call
Kristy at the Extension Office and tell her which
shows you are interested in scrambling at. After this
step is completed, then all of the needed paperwork
will be given to you as it becomes available from the
individual stock shows. So again, to sum up what needs
to be done this month: If you are interested in
participating in a major stock show Calf Scramble you
must tell Kristy at the Extension Office that you are
interested and which particular show you are
interested in scrambling at by September 9, 2016.
After September 9, no more names will be taken for
Scramble participation. After you give Kristy your
name showing interest, you will be given further
instructions on what to do.
Before deciding if you are ready for a Scramble
Heifer from a major livestock show you should ask
yourself the following questions:
but not your 18th birthday on January 1, 2016 and not
enrolled beyond your junior year in high school? Also,
are you an active participant in the 4-H program?
6. Do you weigh at least 100 lbs and are you in top
physical condition?
If you can honestly answer positively to all of these
questions, then you might be a good candidate to
participate in the Calf Scramble at a major livestock show
in Texas. Please think these questions over honestly and
completely and cover all of these topics as a family to
determine if you ready to scramble. The complete list of
Rules and Regulations for Scramble participants can be
found on each stock show’s websites.
Please realize that this is a large commitment for a family
and a large time commitment for the youth involved.
There are monthly reports to be submitted to donors and
4-H agent and records that must be kept during the
entire project.
Please note that signing up at the Extension Office and
completing an application does not guarantee entrance
into a Calf Scramble.
Questions? Please call Kristy at 936-435-2426 or email
1. The Calf Scramble Certificate awarded to winners
[email protected]
is for the purchase of a registered heifer. Many
participants have to add additional money to this
certificate in order to obtain a suitable heifer for
showing. Is your family financially able to do so if
it is necessary?
2. Do you have suitable facilities to care for and raise
a registered heifer?
3. Do you have a real desire to own and show a
registered heifer? Would you devote the
necessary time and attention to the calf in an
effort to bring a top quality heifer to the 2016
Major Livestock Shows?
4. Are the parents willing to allow the participant to
spend the necessary time away from school and
other activities to care for and exhibit the heifer
in the 2016 Major Livestock Shows? Please keep in
mind the academic eligibility of the participant.
5. Have you reached your 12th birthday (to compete in
the Austin and San Antonio Scrambles) or 14th
birthday (for Houston and Ft. Worth stock shows)
