Highlights
• New York State’s homeownership rate was the second lowest among the 50 states in 2010, 54.4 percent compared
to the national rate of 66.9 percent.
• There were 8.1 million housing units in New York State in 2010.
• 3.9 million New York housing units were owner-occupied in 2010.
• There were 242,000 sales of existing homes in New York State during 2010, compared to 253,800 in 2009.
• The median sale price of existing single-family homes in New York State in 2011 was $212,500, compared to $210,000
in 2010.
