LAB – MIXTURES
Get a paper
towel from the
dispenser over
the sink.
Fold it in quarters…
Fold as shown, with one end pointed.
Use scissors to cut off excess on the wide end.
Filter funnel should look like this when done.
Place filter funnel in the plastic funnel and put into a beaker as shown.
Carefully pour some of the mixture into the filter. DO NOT OVERFILL THE
FILTER. Allow the water portion of the mixture to pass through the filter
into the beaker. Save the paper filter for making observations.
Place the beaker with the mixture
on the gauze pad over the Bunsen
Burner. CAUTION!
- Safe behavior is priority 1.
- The teacher will light the burner.
- You must use goggles and apron.
Allow the water mixture to boil to dryness and quickly remove the beaker from the
heat using the heat resistant glove. CAUTION – glass is HOT. Turn off the Bunsen
burner at the gas outlet.
Allow the beaker to cool and
use it for making observations.
