As long as there’s a dog in the school, he’ll have to learn the alphabet too: (Arf the ABCs)” It’s officially Summer! ...and finally the weather reflects it! We talked a lot about summer this week. What do we love about summer? Was a circle time topic, the responses are posted on our classroom door. With the sun shining we played outside a lot. It is amazing to see how so many things have been learned since the beginning of 2010. Some can now do flips on the climber, and some who could not climb it at all are now sitting on top! Zaida shows off her skills on the climber We resumed our 2nd lunch outside, which is a treat for all. There’s a dog in the school, oh no! There is a song we occasionally sing with this title. The story is that the dog has to learn his ABCs, then you bark the ABCs. This week, there was a dog at school. Otto, Vivian and Sydney’s dog visited us for about 10 minutes at morning drop off. What a treat! He ran around and the kids chased him and both were in bliss...Thanks to Laura and her girls for sharing him with us. Page 2 Blake Island News ART This week we worked with rubber stamps. We had office style stamps (signature required) and animals, and cars, trucks, airplanes. It was fun to see the patterns and the choices each individual child made. that contained paper, markers, and a stapler, many fans were made to keep cool. You probably have a few at home now too . As the weather continued to warm up fans were a natural progression. On the table Math, Science, and Marshmallows -Guess jar is a great Math game. This week we had mini marshmallows in our jar. How many were there? We all guessed, and then after we reached forty some had to reformulate our guesses. The winning number on Wednesday was 97! Indie, Elliott and Dutch guessed 100 to win! -We used a lot of different magnets on the science table this week. What do they stick to inn the classroom/ the studio? How many can we stick together? Not only did we explore the magnetic properties, we also classified them into categories by color and shape. Science with Vashon Island Whitney gets ready to throw the bag! When we heard that Whitney and Vashon Island were doing explosions in the big yard, we were excited. When we were invited, we were ecstatic! Whitney had a great project which involved baking soda and vinegar and food coloring in a ziplock bag! The vinegar was mixed with food coloring and poured into a bag. Next they placed a “time release capsule” in the bag. The capsule first contained baking soda. After the first explosion Blake Islanders had some ideas. Nico suggested less vinegar, Maya suggested mixing colors, Sophie thought more baking soda, and Ellis wanted to add a rock and maybe some sand. Each idea yielded a different reaction and all were VERY fun! This Friday we buried our pet rat, Despereaux in our garden near the berry patch. Some took the time to say a few words and everyone threw a handful of dirt onto his burial plot. There will be a video uploaded to Shutterfly this afternoon. Goodbye dear Despereaux . You were a great class pet and we loved you. (Sydney G, with Despereaux in her hood) WE’RE ON THE WEB! EXAMPLE.COM Rebecca’s playdough rat Games Quiet time is a great time to experiment with games. This week we found the GO FISHING game. This game is electronic, and I was hesitant to put it out but went against my hesitation and am so happy I did. There were two of them, and everyone was great! Zaida, Jackie, and Rebecca play GO FISHING.
