This annual, one-day event has made the dreams of thousands of children come true by working with policymakers, practitioners and advocates to finalize adoptions and create and celebrate adoptive families. Today, National Adoption Day is celebrated nationwide annually on the Saturday before Thanksgiving as hundreds of events are held to finalize the adoptions of children in foster care, and to celebrate all families who adopt. Maybe the fact that their parents were very intentional about choosing to raise them molded them in a way that other children don’t always experience. Whatever the reason, children who are adopted have many sources of inspiration and big footsteps to follow behind: singers and entertainers like Eric Clapton, Nat King Cole, Kristin Chenoweth, Jamie Foxx, Faith Hill, John (Continued on page 2) Our beautiful courtyard in full bloom. But fortunately, there are always a couple of Elders who are “night owls” to keep her company. “Their family stories and memories make me feel like a part of their family.” She enjoys being able to get to know a wide range of Elders and hear their stories. Ever since she got her first job in high school, Crystal has been collecting tennis shoes. “I have tennis shoes that I’ve never worn that just stay in the box in my closet. My family thinks I’m crazy because I’ll camp out in front of the mall when there are new shoe releases,” she laughed. Crystal grew up in Vallejo with her brother and three sisters. “My favorite childhood memories are all the summer vacations to Hawaii to visit my older sister and grandparents.” She and her siblings loved being able to play outside and go to the beach.
