Protect Hyaline Cartilage Surfaces with the
Revolutionary Headless Meniscal Dart from Arthrex
The Arthrex Meniscal Dart is a headless bioabsorbable implant with double
reverse barbs for excellent fixation of
meniscal tissue. The calibrated Dart Gun
delivers the Dart 1 mm below the surface
of the meniscus to protect against femoral
articular cartilage contact damage caused
by headed implants.
The completely amorphous PLDLA
copolymer material absorbs within 36
weeks. Increased implant flexibility more
closely approximates the dynamic elasticity
of the meniscus to reduce implant
migration or breakage (1). The Dart is
available in 10, 12 and 14 mm lengths.
The Meniscal Dart delivery system
consists of a spring-loaded, autoclavable
gun with attachable sheaths in straight,
curved up and curved left or right styles.
The gun features an easy to cock
mechanism and safety trigger to facilitate
simple, one step insertion of Meniscal
Darts 1 mm below the surface of the
meniscus.
The convenient plastic retainer (2)
facilitates easy Dart loading into
the end of the Dart
Gun Sheath.

The Dart Gun Sheaths have two
horizontal fixation teeth (3) on a
beveled edge to allow meniscal tissue
shifting and positioning from above or
below the meniscus prior to Dart
insertion.

The
Meniscal Dart
system consists of
the Dart Gun handle,
spring-loaded T-handle,
4 attachable gun sheaths,
2 nitinol drive pins, Meniscal
Rasp and a sterilization case.
The flexible, small diameter cannula
and obturator (a) allows atraumatic
arthroscopic insertion of the sheath tip
into the joint without hanging up on
soft tissue. The flexible design allows
passage of curved sheaths through the
cannula.
The offset Meniscal Rasp (d) is ideally
shaped to access inside meniscal tears
that require debridement prior to repair.
The Meniscal Vascular Punch (c)
provides another option to create a
bleeding environment in the tear prior
to repair. The punch is inserted through
the tear into the periphery to create an
open channel to increase clot formation
within the tear. A 1.5 mm diameter core
of meniscal tissue is removed by attaching
the vascular punch to suction during
penetration and removal (ca).
The malleable Dart Measuring Probe
(b) provides a means to measure the
meniscus in order to select the appropriate length Dart. The malleable shaft
also facilitates accurate selection of the
anatomically appropriate straight or
curved sheath for ideal access to the
tear from the portal established.

Joystick System for Dart manual insertion or Inside/Out Suturing
The Joystick accessories provide the surgeon
with a manual insertion option to the Dart Gun.
Dart Gun sheaths can be attached to the Joystick
handle. Darts are then preloaded into the sheath
and advanced into the meniscus with the thumbcontrolled driver. An optional trocar is provided
to create a pilot hole prior to Dart insertion when
tough, calcified meniscal tissue is encountered.
The Joystick system accommodates Nitinol
wire inside/out suturing needles (AR-1291) to
facilitate combined inside/out and Dart meniscal
repair procedures.
