Czech Glass Beaded Bead Necklace and Earrings
Materials for necklace:
• 73 6mm Czech glass pearls (GPR6)
• 60 4mm Czech fire-polished beads
(GB7)
• 36 4mm Czech crystal bicones
(CGB9C)
• 49 cms 5x2mm figaro chain (C33)
• 1 reel of nymo 0.008” (S170)
• 1 9mm jump ring (JF14)
• 1 5mm jump ring (JF16)
• 1 headpin (JF18)
• 1 lobster clasp ( JF84B)
Instructions for Necklace
First make all the woven beads.
Take a piece of thread about 50 cms long and thread three pearls in the middle. Thread a pearl
on one strand and then pass the other strand through the centre of the same pearl in the opposite direction (figure 1). Then pull the thread taut.
Add another pearl on each strand and then pass - or weave - the other strand through another
pearl as before and pull the threads taut. Thread on ten pearls in this way.
Fig. 1
Then add another pearl on each strand (figure 2). Bring it right round and pass the thread
through the first pearl threaded. Do the same with the second strand so it is threaded through
the other side of the first pearl. Pull the threads taut to form a round (figure 3).
There will be 4 beads on each side of your round. When you look at it, you will see that there is
a ring of thread through the 4 beads on each side. Pass the thread through each of the 2 sets
of 4 beads that have no thread between them. This will strengthen the bead and ensure that it
holds its shape. Fasten each thread off by tying a strong knot, such as a half hitch knot then
feed the thread through the bead to hide the end and trim the excess.
Fig. 2
Make 6 beaded beads in this way with the pearls. Then make 5 beads with the fire-polished
beads and 3 beads with the crystal bicones.
To make the dangle, thread a pearl on a headpin, followed by a fire-polished bead and make a
loop. Attach a 4cm piece of chain to the loop.
To assemble the necklace, thread a crystal bicone bead onto the centre of a piece of chain 45
cms long. On one side, add a pearl bead, then a fire-polished bead, another pearl bead, a bicone bead, a pearl bead and a fire-polished bead. Do the same on the other side. Add a lobster clasp to one end, using a 5mm jump ring. Add the 9mm jump ring to the other side and
attach the end link of the dangle to it to make an extension chain. This makes a necklace 47
cms long (excluding extension chain).
Tip: make sure you keep the thread taut, but not too tight. If your tension is too loose, just
thread through some of the beads again before tying if off.
