Remember that we will be scoring your HS meet performances this year to encourage you to challenge yourself at HS meets regardless of the level of your competition. It is VERY important that you challenge yourself every time you get on the blocks. Coach Steve … Coach Greg Senior News As the short course championship season approaches, it is very important that everyone stay healthy. In order to remain healthy, we need to eat right, get plenty of rest and remove as much stress as possible. Eating right is important for maintaining the right level of energy during the practice session. It is also important to the body to help repair and recover from injuries and sickness. Sleep is the one time that the body goes into overdrive to recover from breakdowns and build up defenses that help prevent future breakdowns. One way to remove stress is by committing your efforts to finish school work on time or before it is due. Let‟s all try to stay focused and finish the season as well as we started it. Swim meet results have been a bit mixed but generally very positive. I have been very happy with the effort level of all. Some notable results: SRVLA C/B/A+ meet: Heather Chandler 500 Free, Eva Chung 200 IM, Tony Shen 100 Breaststroke, Brian Lee 100 Breaststroke Santa Clara Senior meet: Bernie Martin 200 Free, Bridget Booe 200 Free, Maggie Kauffeld 1000 Free, Eva Chung 1000 Free, Katie Woods 200 Back and 400 IM, Cate Macgregor 200 Fly, Lillian Sun 400 IM, Kevin McLaughlin 200 Free and 100 Breaststroke, James Thompson 1000 Free, Tony Shen 100 Breaststroke, Jason Chen 200 IM Zone II meet: Anna Winegarner All her events Super League Championships: We had many life time best times and the results were very good. Keep up the good work and we will all succeed. Coach Greg 3 Pleasanton Seahawks Newsplash … Coach Jon Varsity News Hi Gang, Our leg strength has continued to progress, as our rest intervals decrease, and that‟s a very good sign. Now we need to focus on using that leg strength to benefit our swimming while we begin another round of Challenge Sets. Attendance has continued to remain strong throughout some rough nights, weather-wise. Remember to work to get your schoolwork done quickly after school so that you can go to sleep, soon after practice. Studies have been done, and your effectiveness in the classroom can be greatly improved with exercise and a good night‟s sleep. As always, if you cannot make a scheduled practice, you are expected to text or e-mail me before the practice to let me know that you‟re missing & why… Thank you for your diligence with this… Here‟s another reminder to wear sweatshirts, parkas, shoes or boots on your feet, to & from practice everyday, and bring a water bottle… You WILL use it… When you start cramping up during practice, that‟s your body‟s way of telling you, “DRINK MORE WATER!!!” We have Meet results from the Zone 2 Championships Meet, held on February 5th & 6th. Jae Williams went 3/3 w/ New Best Times, all A-times in the 50 Free, 100 Free & 100 Breast, Natalie Cook went 2/7 w/ NBT‟s including a New A-time in the 100 Free, and Shri Gandhi went 3/5 w/ NBT‟s including New A-times in the 200 Free, 100 Back & 100 Breast We had a few Birthdays to celebrate in February, Parth S (2/12) & Sophia P (2/20) celebrated their Birthdays. Happy Birthday to everyone, I hope you have a great time… As we approach the High School Swimming Season, I want to remind all of our High School Swimmers to begin filling out their paperwork to swim on their High School Teams, and getting their Physicals taken care of. For most teams, you would still practice with us every night – then you go to the High School Meets. Please get me a copy of your High School Meet Schedule so that you won‟t be docked practice attendance for those missed days… Also Note, that you must enter „Unattached‟ at ALL U.S.S. MEETS once your High School competition season has begun – this is the first High School Meet that you compete in, where you score points. For Amador kids, their first Meet will be Friday, March 11th. For Foothill kids, their first Meet will be Saturday, February 26 th. The penalties for non-compliance are being banned from the next 2 High School Meets the first time, and being banned from ALL High School Competitions for a period of ONE YEAR the second time. Coach Todd Junior News ... Coach Joe Each month the group has voted for whom they thought was the most inspiring swimmer in the group for that month. The winner for this month was Tim Yao. Tim is always pushing the people in his lanes by racing hard. He is very well liked and supported by her teammates. Outstanding attendance during the previous month was established by: Natalia Bello(95%), Miranda Heckman(95%), Tim Yao(86%), Chase Sinclair(91%), Michael Martin(95%), Rishab Nair(100%), and Wolf Lachance(91%). Nice job on your dedication! Your consistency will pay off when it comes time to race in the meets. It‟s good to observe many of the swimmers applying good habits with their technique when it comes time to race. Keep up the good work! 5 Pleasanton Seahawks Newsplash Special note: I‟m pleased to see most of the swimmers wearing closed-toed shoes and warmer clothing. The weather is now too cold for swimmers to be showing up and leaving in open toed shoes, shorts, and without jackets. Make sure your swimmer is properly dressed for the cold evenings. Also, it is important that swimmers are remembering to bring a water bottle to practice. Even though it is cold outside, it is not always noticeable just how much you are sweating while exercising in the water. Entry forms are due in the entries box on the Friday two weeks before any given meet so that the swimmer can appear on the split sheets. Swimmers should swim almost as fast as they can on the first 25, but they should hold some energy in reserve for the final 25, which is where swimmers will be racing most intensely for the finish. A swimmer who swims the second 25 faster than the first 25 accomplishes a desired “negative split.” We have been practicing negative splits by kicking freestyle 50s on a kickboard. Ideally, the second 25 should be about 2 seconds faster than the first 25. Here are the members of the Negative Split Club as of this writing: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Best, Coach Allen … Coach Devon Novice 2 News Hi Everyone, I would like to start by welcoming Prabh Sethi and Jack Zhu to our group! At the end of each month the group will vote for another swimmer who they found to be the most inspirational swimmer to them for that month. Swimmers need to wear warm clothes (parkas, sweatshirts) and closed toe shoes to practice each night. We are responsible for covering the pool every night and parent help is needed! Thank you! Coach Devon … Coach Katy Pre-Novice News Hi Everyone, Can you believe it is March already? Although we are supposedly entering the spring months, it has been extremely cold and wet on the pool deck lately. It is very important that your swimmer come to the pool properly dressed each night so they don‟t get sick. This means that they have warm clothes (parkas, robes, sweats), shoes, and towels at the ready when they get out of the water (and they aren‟t waiting for mom and dad to bring these items over). Now on to achievements… Although she has since moved up to the Novice group, Christina Coatney proudly represented the Pre-Novice group at the Zone 2 Championship Meet in Moraga in early February. Christina secured new personal bests in the 25 Breast and 50 Free and also did well in the 25 Free, holding onto B times in each event. Great job Christina!! A big thank you to Supriya, Lan, Margaret, June, Sheldon, and Janet (as well as their families) for their support of the PreNovice group at our assigned Bingo night on 2/19. We really appreciate your support!! Our attendance stars for the month of February are Vaishnavi Rao and Justin and Derek Shue who each had 88% attendance. Great job guys! I would also like to officially welcome Vasuki and Vaishnavi Rao, Amala Rao, and Anish Anburaja to our PreNovice group. These swimmers have all recently joined and are making great additions to our team! Happy Birthday wishes to Navid Tehranian who turns 10 on March 23rd. Happy Birthday Navid!!
