The Power of The Word - on Paper and in Stone
A car or cycle journey around the Betws y Coed area
Duration: By car 2-3 hours / By cycle ½ day
Leave the village by the old road
near the Cotswold Rock Bottom
shop to emerge near Fairy Glen on
the A470 and proceed south. For
cyclists there is a cycle path you can
follow alongside the A470 for 5-10
minutes. Follow the A470 south and
then turn left onto a minor road at a
bridge and then right on to a minor
road following brown tourist signs
to Tŷ Mawr Wybrnant (2). Managed
by the National Trust, this was
the birthplace of Bishop William
Morgan (c.1545-1604), who
translated the Bible into Welsh.
Return to the road and take minor
road through Gwydir Forest that
links with the A5 at the Ugly House.
The remains of lead mines litter the
surrounding area. There is a Mines
Trail signposted from Hafna (7)
car park. From the Ugly House
take Telford’s A5 past the famous
Swallow Falls back to Betws y Coed.

designed by Inigo Jones. Go on to
