Altering the Journey
The journey to Lookout Mountain is arduous, time consuming and epic. Once there, the peak of Lookout Mountain offers
expansive views over all of HJ Andrews Forest. For this purpose, I am chosing Mack Creek. Architecture should enhance, it
should bring forth something lacking. Lookout Mountain would not benefit from architecture because it is within itself a
place for reflection. Mack Creek offers a challenge and gives a purpose to architecture. How can architecture imitate what
nature has already provided at Lookout Mountain?
Through Landscaping or structure
What can a structure do to
create an expansive and epic
journey?
Can variations within the
landscape create a sense of
movement?

What does it mean to reopen the trail between lookout Mountain and
Mack Creek?
HJ Andrews is trying to build a
connection between the humanities and sciences. Maybe the connection
between the two sites can enhance and showcase the work being done
Dispersed along the connecting
trails writings and discoveries
done by researchers and visiting
artists can be displayed. Through
smaller shelters or simple
plaques.
What does this mean for the two sites?
How can there be a connection
between the two structures? Maybe there is
only one structure at Mack Creek.
