Resources/equipment Basketball Court 5 Footballs Safety If the ball is punted too hard it could hit the ceiling then fall down and hit another student. In the demonstration to the class I will have the students not use so much leg power in the punt. Instructional Plan – Opening: Hello class! Today we will be learning how to properly punt the football. This is important for later on when we play flag football when you get to four down and don’t want to turn the ball over on down and want to make it harder for the opposing team to school you would perform this strategy. You are going to catch the ball first, then spin the ball so that the laces are facing up and facing you, then take two steps but take the first step with your dominant foot, then extend the ball on your second step, then drop the ball out over your foot and have your foot straight out so that your shoe laces of your shoe kick the ball and try to strike the ball with the outside of your shoe. Time Task Cues 2 Warm up- throw the ball back and forth with your partner 2 Opening lecture- I will Go Challenges Getting group a ball Getting the Drills/formations/organizations/transitions There will be one partner on the sideline and the other partners will be half way across the court. Sit on the baseline. I will go over the Start be telling the class what we will be doing today “Punting the football” Freeze 1 Practice on catching ball Catch 1 Practice on spinning Catch the ball after you catch Spin it 1 Practice on getting your steps proper after catching and spinning the ball Catch Spin Step 1 Practice on extended the ball once the student gets to their second step Practice on dropping the ball and punting the ball to their partner Catch Spin Step Extend Catch Spin Step Extend Kick Catch Spin Step Extend Kick Freeze 1 3 Put all the parts together and punt the ball back and forth to your partner 2 Closing Lecture: review what we have covered today and answer any question students attention and stop protocols which I will use the words Go- which is to start the activity. Freeze- will be to stop the activity and put the football between your feet. Discuss what we will be learning to do today by using cues to get through the lesson. Will show the Whole of how to punt then break it down by parts Dropping the Partner will be tossing the football ball underhanded to the other parter. They will do this action back and forth. Spin the ball After the partner has caught under have too many pass, then they will spin the balls so that times trying to the laces are up get the laces up Taking too After catching then spinning the ball the many steps players will take two steps. First step is with dominate foot then the second step is the plant, as the foot is being plant you swing the dominant foot backward Not extended After catching then spinning the ball the the ball far players will take two steps and as the enough second step is being taking start to extend the ball Kicking the After catching then spinning the ball the ball with the players will take two steps then extending wrong part of the ball the student will drop the ball over the shoe the foot with the ball hitting shoe laces part of the shoe. Punting the The student will put all the cues together ball out of and properly punt the ball back and forth control to their partner. This will be done in the whole and not part by part. Getting students to answer questions The student will be assessed on what was covered in the lesson today. Closure Which key points will be summarized during the lesson closure? Include specific questions that will be asked of the students. I will ask a student go give an example of one of the five cues I will ask them what each cues are in order and ask a student to demonstrate them. The student will as so be able to answer: Why is punting the ball important in football? It is important because it changes the field position when a team can not pick up the 1st down on 4th down. Student Assessment A student will be asked to demonstrate the five cues and then a student will answer the question that was asked before they leave the class.
