Mystery Day
READING FUN. During the summer months all students
at OLP were required to read a number of books as well
as prepare reports on these books. A fine example of their
creative ability is Miss Palermo's fourth grade class. These
students found making diaramas a fun way to complete
their summer reading assignments. As you can see, they
did a great job on these three dimensional creations. Pictured
(back row) are Emilia Solinto and Jason DeVries. Submitted by Joanne Sansone 599-6169.

First a Friend...Then a Host"
Friendship and hospitality are fine qualities for hosts
during this holiday season...so long as friendship comes
first.
That was the warning
issued today by Police Chief
Joseph Lauriano of the Lynbrook Police Department.
In cooperation with the
Automobile Club of New
York's a n n u a l " F i r s t A
Friend...Then A H o s t "
safety campaign, the Chief
reminded holiday hosts not
to push highballs - or any
kind of intoxicating drink - on guests who will be
driving. He recommended
substituting coffee, soft
drinks and dessert for cocktails ~ at least an hour before
the end of the party.
" T h i s gives drivers a
longer break before getting
behind the wheel," said the
Chief. "It is also helpful to
serve rich foods that help
both to moderate the effects
of drinking and to reduce the
amount of alcohol guests
might otherwise consume to
stay with the party,"
He also suggested that
hosts should make a special
effort to arrange transportation home for guests who
have overindulged.
In stressing the danger of
driving under the influence
of alcohol, the Chief said
that real hospitality fulfilled
the traditional holiday wish
of "many happy returns" by
helping guests get home
safely.
