2nd Quarter Book Report Project
“Collage” is a French word meaning “glue.” A collage is the art of making pictures by pasting on a
background such things as fragments of photographs, newspapers, magazines, pictures, photos,
fabrics, string, words, paint, ribbons, glitter, odds and ends and other various materials.
YOUR ASSIGNMENT is to create a small collage (8 X 11 or larger) to represent the novel that you
read. Using a design and materials of your own choice, your collage must meet the following
requirements:
1. Use a variety of materials (AT LEAST 7 different materials must be used!), but everything must
refer to the book in some way. (PLEASE NOTE..photos on photographic paper will count as _1_
material, and magazine photos will count as _1_ material. This means you must have a minimum of
_5_ other DIFFERENT materials or objects. (See the definition of collage above for ideas of materials
that you can use—be creative! Use your imagination!)
Teacher will supply one sheet of 8 X 11 paper (or larger) for you if you need it but I HIGHLY
recommend purchasing a piece of paper that is STIFF enough to support the different materials you
will use. Remember, a collage is NOT a poster with some pictures slapped on it; ALL areas of your
background should be covered and overlap each other.
Another suggestion is to use a GLUE GUN when applying your different materials. I am NOT
responsible for objects that fall off in transit or when you turn it in because you attempted to secure
a strange object using a glue stick. Glue sticks or meant for PAPER or photos only.
2. The front of your collage must include:
 Title of book & name of author (prominently displayed)
 Five words from the book that were new to you, or that you found interesting and their
definitions
 Five sentences using the five words you chose from above
 Names of at least three (3) of the characters and a short 3 sentence description of each of
them.
 A short plot summary (at LEAST 5 sentences)
 An opinion of the book recommending it or not to your fellow peers and why. You must use
_2_ examples from the book to support your opinion which must be at least 5 sentences long.
3. The back of the collage must have your name and class period.
4. You should be prepared to explain the meaning of the items on your collage if asked by the
teacher.
