Subject:- Settlement of Krakinovo Bath house aooount.
Dear Mr Marcus:
We have had to day a visit from Mr Dubjansky of Krakinavo
in connection with the accounts for the Krakinovo bath house! He brought
with him a statement which gives the following amounts as aotually
disbursed in the work:1. Ereotimof the walls. In view of the faot thatv during the progress of the work it was found that some of the aid walls which were
expected to be left without change could not be left and had to be rebull
the aotual oost of this part of the work amounted instead of 6,500 to

The aotual oost, for whioh there are all the supporting documents
in Krakinovo. thus exooeeds the estimated oost by 3,053 Litas.' I
The 11,375 Litas for the walls also oontaina the oost of r^aaking
the oeiling whioh was condemned by Mr Masel and ax the prioes of bricks »
and lime whioh have been supplied by Mr Varkul already oontain a certain
margin of profit.
The law oost of the floor is accounted for by the faot that
underneath the earth of the ruined bath house there was found a portion
of the old oonorete floor which could be left as it was,'
Together with the statement Mr Dubjaneky brought with him the
following letterJ26-IX-1923.
Certificate.
To Mr J. Marcus, Director of the J.D.O.
The Building Committee herewith certifies that the contractor,
Mr S.Z^iVarkulhas comleted the work of the Krakinovo Bath house well
and in aooordanoe with the oontraot; (some, parts of the work he has
made even better than was forseen by the oontraot, as is known to Mr
Masel). With the exception of the sprays everjrth^ag is made wall and
it is known that Mr S.Z.Varkul is losing money on the oontraot.)
The Building Committee has used its influence with Mr Varkul
to have him finish the wsrk being sure that Mr Marous will not wish
to see Ms him lose by it.'
Bespeotfully
Building Committee of the Krakinovo Bath house, (signatures).
-- 2 We have had a long conference together with Mr Dub;)snaky and
Mazel and the one thing we have made quite clear is that not a cent
more oan we spend on the building. But the position is very unsatisfactory for Mr Varkul, who is faoad with the loss of 3,000 Litaa or
at least (allowing for his profits on the materials supplied by him
and the remaking of the bad part of oelling) as is estimated by Mr
Masai, 2,500 Litas.:
I told them that no steps oan be taken by this office officially^
The only thing that oan bo dona is for the Krakinovo Building Committee
to write in its own name to the donor putting it to him that a,poor
man is faoad with the losa of whatv is for him a vary considerable
sum of money.. On our own part we oan only certify that the aotual
oost as given above is oorreot.i
I am waiting for your reply and am not going to take any steps
until we hear from you1!
With kindest regar
P*S» Please note that there is no reason whatever to imagine thai the1
