It is a beautiful tribute to the twenty-nine parishioners who have gone before us marked with the sign of faith. During the entire month of November the All Souls Envelopes with the names of the faithful departed will remain on the Altar and be remembered in a special way at all the Masses during the Month. We should pray each day: “May all the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen. This Wednesday the Church throughout the world celebrates the Feast of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica of Saint John in Rome, Italy. Early in the fourth century the persecution of Christians came to a close with the conversion of the emperor Constantine, who granted the followers of Jesus the right to public worship. Constantine offered Pope Sylvester I some property owned by the Lateran family, which became the site of the first Christian Basilica, dedicated on November 9, 324. In time, the church was placed under the patronage of Saint John the Baptist and Saint John the Evangelist. The Lateran Basilica remains the cathedral church of Rome; this is his cathedral, not Saint Peter’s. Since the pope is the shepherd of the universal church, the Lateran Basilica of Saint John is the cathedral church of the world. Each year the dedication of this building is celebrated in every catholic parish throughout the world. This feast commemorates the perseverance of our faith and the right of Christians to worship. This Friday we observe Veterans Day. Veterans Day, formerly known as Armistice Day, was originally set as a U.S. legal holiday to honor the end of World War I, which officially ended on November 11, 1918. In legislature that was passed in 1938, November 11 was "dedicated to the cause of world peace and to be hereafter celebrated and known as 'Armistice Day.'" As such, this new legal holiday honored World War I veterans. In 1954, after having been through both World War II and the Korean War, the 83rd U.S. Congress, at the urging of the veterans service organizations, amended the Act of 1938 by striking out the word "Armistice" and inserting the word "Veterans." With the approval of this legislation on June 1, 1954, Nov. 11 became a day to honor American veterans of all wars. Veterans Day gives Americans the opportunity to celebrate the bravery and sacrifice of all U.S. veterans. Let us continue to pray for all those that have served our Country and those that are presently serving our Country. With prayers, Fr. Ledoux Weekly Collection……. $2387.00 All Souls………...…… $813.00 Thank you for your continued generosity. The Second Collection next weekend will be for Catholic Education.
