Dr. Clayton Oliphint

C. C. Young was chartered in 1922. Never in its 94 years
has there been so compelling a need to serve older adults
who unwittingly have outlived their savings and financial
resources.
Our residents are forced to depend upon financial assistance
to survive.
C. C. Young’s continuum of care allows our residents a
safe and familiar environment offering basic needs such as
housing, food, nursing care and most importantly dignity
and love.
Most of our residents have lived at C. C. Young for more than
20 years with the majority being women who have outlived
their husbands. They have worked hard all of their lives
while raising a family.
The soul has no wrinkles – it is incumbent to value life - all of
life. Please support our Benevolence Fund.

Dr. Clayton Oliphint has served as Senior Pastor of First United
Methodist Church, Richardson since 2001. In 2006, the church relocated
to a 22.5 acre site on Central Expressway in Richardson, resulting in
a period of dramatic growth in worship attendance, with more than
3,000 new members joining in the last ten years. The church is actively
involved in community relationships in caring for the needs of those
in poverty, and partnering with local schools to strengthen education.
FUMCR has partner churches and schools in Eastern Europe, Russia,
and Africa, and sends out multiple mission teams each year, locally,
nationally, and globally.
Dr. Oliphint began his ministry in 1983. He was pastor of a three
church circuit in Kansas in 1983. From 1986 to 1990, Clayton served
as an associate minister to Dr. Don R. Benton at Lovers Lane UMC in
Dallas. In 1990, he was appointed to FUMC in The Colony, leading that
church through two building programs. In 1996, he was appointed
to FUMC, Duncanville where he served until being appointed to
Richardson in November of 2001. All of the churches he has served
have shown large increases in worship attendance, new members, and
mission involvement and giving.
Dr. Oliphint received a B.A. in History and Religion from Austin
College in 1983. He played on AC’s 1981 NAIA National Championship
football team and received All America recognition. He received a
Master of Divinity Degree (1988) and a Doctor of Ministry Degree
(1996) from Perkins School of Theology, SMU.
Clayton was elected to be a delegate to the 2008, 2012, and 2016 General
Conference of the United Methodist Church, and was first-alternate
delegate to the 2004 General Conference. He serves on the boards of
the Texas Methodist Foundation, C. C. Young Retirement Community,
and the Office of Christian Unity and Interreligious Relationships. In
addition he serves on the Advisory Boards of Methodist Richardson
Medical Center and New Friends, New Life. The Richardson Chamber
of Commerce named him “Citizen of the Year” for 2013. He and
his sister, Mary Brooke Casad, are the co-authors of three books by
Abingdon Press; Citizens of Hope, The Road to Amazing, and Get in
the Game.
Clayton and his wife, Lori, are both “preacher’s kids,” and are the
parents of three “preachers kids” - Erin (24 – a third grade teacher in
Richardson ISD), Katy (22 – a senior at TCU), and Grant (17- a junior
at Pearce HS).

The C. C. Young Servant Leadership Award was established to recognize

leading, and have made a positive difference in the community. It is our
great honor to recognize Dr. Clayton Oliphint as our recipient this year.
He exemplifies the very essence of what the award represents, a humble
soul who inspires greatness.
