Plurals and the Prefix conMost plurals are formed by adding -s or -es.
• For words that end in a consonant and y,
change the y to / and add -es.
cherry, cherries
colony, colonies
For words that end in a vowel and y, just add -s.
key, keys
For some words that end in f or fe, change the f or
fe to v and add -es.
wife, wives
calf, calves
For most words that end in a consonant and o, you
add -es.
potato, potatoes
radio, radios
For words that end in o preceded by a vowel, just
add -s.
scratch, scratches
For words that end in s, z, ch, sh, or x, just add -es.
Many words feature the prefix con-. This prefix is from the Latin
meaning "with, join, or together."
