Dinner Plain Update
SUMMER 2011
PLAYGROUND UPGRADE
The Alpine Shire has worked with Yackandandah artist Benjamin Gilbert to develop an
inspirational addition to the playground. The running Emu and Brumby recognise both
the natural and European heritage of the Victorian High Country; and further enhance
the character of the village. The sculptures are interactive providing children with the
opportunity to participate in the chase. The Emu and Brumby will be installed in
readiness for the Christmas holidays.

SUMMER 2011
DINNER PLAIN CYCLE TOURISM & 7 PEAKS
FROM THE ALPINE SHIRE COUNCIL BUILDING TEAM
Cycle tourism is a niche market with considerable
potential growth. The total estimated expenditure
for the year ending December 2010 by domestic
overnight, daytrip and international overnight
visitors that participated in cycling in Victoria is
$362 million. The estimated total expenditure of
cycle tourists in Australia is approximately $2.4
billion (including domestic overnight, daytrip and
international overnight visitors that participated
in cycling as an activity). The High Country Region
can offer tourists an array of cycling experiences
with diverse terrain including mountain biking,
tracks and trails, road cycling and events, which is
why the Victorian High Country is seen as the
leading cycling tourism region. Victoria’s High
Country also has an events program which
strengthens its position as a cycling destination.
Dinner Plain being part of the Victorian High
Country can certainly use this niche market as a
way of gaining great promotion for the area and
editorials. The 7 Peaks Alpine Ascent Challenge
will run from 28th of October 2011 through to
31st of March 2012, new passports are available
from the Dinner Plain Visitor Information Centre
and Alpine Visitor Information Centre in
Bright. Take the Challenge this season to ride
four of our classic alpine peaks entering yourself
into the trip of a lifetime.
