Pupils return after the Christmas break on Wednesday 6th January 2016 Autumn second half 2015-16 Respect, Resourcefulness, Resilience, Reflectiveness 1 Staffing I would like to take this opportunity to say goodbye to Mr Clarke who has been teaching in Beech class this term and thank him for all his hard work since joining the team. Everyone at Nine Mile Ride Primary wishes him well as he moves to his new school in January. Mrs Penfold has been our Librarian for the last 12 years and she will be leaving us in January to take on new challenges. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Penfold for the commitment that she has shown to the school during her time at Nine Mile Ride and wish her every success in her new career. We will be recruiting for this role – if you are interested please visit www.wokingham.gov.uk/jobs for further details and an application form. From January, we are looking forward to welcoming Mrs Dee to Year 5 and Mrs Sykes, our new Deputy Headteacher. We are confident that they will settle in quickly and be an asset to the school. Mrs Sykes will be teaching for two days in Year 3/4 alongside Mrs Osborne. Charity Fundraising The NMR school community raised an amazing £443.58 for the Poppy Appeal this year - £134 more than in 2014! The Royal British Legion has asked me to pass on their thanks, saying that without your help, they would be unable to continue their vital welfare and benevolent work. Really Wild Club – Volunteers Urgently Required Due to changes in circumstances we are now short of volunteers to help run the Really Wild Club and we may struggle to continue the club next term. It has proved to be a really popular club this term and we would love to keep it running. If you or someone you know (e.g. Grandparent) can spare a Friday lunchtime either weekly, or occasionally, we would love to hear from you. We also require someone to help planning the sessions - this generally involves meeting up once a term for an hour and gathering together resources as needed. We would appreciate any support even if it is only on an occasional basis. If you are interested, please contact Kathy Geddes email:[email protected] Or Wendy McKeown email.: [email protected] for further details. School timetable KS1 – Register 8.45am – 3.00pm KS2 – Registration 8.40am – 3.10pm - Junior children can come into the class room from 8.30am so that learning can start straight from 8:40am. The expectation is that pupils are in class and ready to start work at 8.40am and 8.45am respectively. Pupils arriving late must report to the school office on arrival. Thank you for your support. Autumn second half 2015-16 Foundation Stage: doors open at 8.40 Registration 8.45am – 3.00pm. The FS gate will be closed at 9.00am after this time children must be brought to the school office to be signed in. 2 Parking Local residents are concerned about the number of parents who are parking on pavements, double yellow lines and blocking driveways during the school run and as a result, the parish council and PCSO’s are monitoring the parking situation very closely. Therefore, I would urge you to park considerately during drop off and pick up times and walk to school if at all possible. Thank you in anticipation of your support. School Reception - safety A kind request – Please may we ask that pupils and siblings do not play or climb on or around the new reception entrance including the blue bars. This is to avoid anyone being hurt. Thank you Scholastic Book Fair Thank you to all who supported the recent book fair. We received a FANTASTIC £613 in commission which is taken in the form of books for the school. Many thanks to Mrs Penfold, the school librarian for organising this event. A big thanks to Mrs Leech, Mrs Beckett, Mrs Murfitt, Mrs Gunstone and Mr Gough for their help We hope that you all have a wonderful Christmas and look forward to welcoming you all back to school on Wednesday 6th January. Friends of Nine Mile Ride If you are Christmas shopping online, you can help raise funds for the school by shopping via www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/friendsofnmr with any of over 2,700 retailers. A percentage of what you spend is donated to Friends of Nine Mile Ride at no additional cost to you. Thank you to everyone who supported the Christmas Fair last Saturday we hope you enjoyed it! We are still totting up the profits but it looks as though we have raised about £3000 which is amazing! The photo-booth was particularly popular, thank you to Mr Smith and Mr Scurr for dressing up and posing with the children! Thank you also to everyone who gave their time to do a stall and to those who helped clear up afterwards. FNMR would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Autumn second half 2015-16 In the Spring Term there are more events to look forward to such as Film Friday (22 January) and Quiz Night (Friday 11th March). Enjoy your holidays! 3
