Today`s 2 Cents is mundane but needs to be reported. Last Sunday I

Presider: Fr. Jim DeBruycker
Undying Heart: The Passion of St.
Joan: Today, before each Gym Mass,
we celebrate the feast day of our beloved patron, St. Joan of Arc, with a
specially commissioned work for storytellers, puppeteers, musicians and
dancers. Directed by Gabrielle Dane,
this liturgical drama features Vanessa
Gamble as Joan, the SJA adult and
children's choirs and guest musicians
Jim Price and Scott Agster with music led by Tommy Barbarella, Anna
Vagle and Seth Boyd. Thanks to all!
The Sunday Morning Registration
and Information Office is located in
the Parish Center. In the office you
may register to become a SJA parishioner, get program information, sign up
for a program, and register to volunteer. The office is open after both
of our Sunday morning liturgies.
Today’s 2 Cents is mundane but needs to be reported. Last Sunday I overheard someone say
about the work on the Gym plaza, “It looks like they raked it out.” Ah, I think they did a little
more than that. Here is the official report we received this week:
Hello everyone, the courtyard paver project is well underway and on budget.
So far we have removed about 25 yards of material which has been placed in appropriate
areas around the SJA campus and raised the drain cover about 18 inches to what will become
finished grade. The raised catch basin is built to accept the rainwater retained by the reservoir
under the pavers, as well as at the surface thru the drain cover grate at grade. We added 33
yards of rock and gravel, starting with 2 ½ inch river rock, followed by 3 sizes of smaller
rock down to ⅜ inch chips as we progressed to paver height.
We now have about 3,500 gallons of momentary rainwater retention capacity to allow for
storm drain line to catch up during heavy rains.
Pavers will be placed as soon as they arrive, should be Monday or Tuesday of this week.
Thanks! Mike Senti & Kevin Bandy
This project will considerably enlarge our gathering and play space, not to mention, hopefully,
once and for all, take care of our storm runoff and basement flooding. We owe huge thanks to
Mike & Kevin, Moe Failer, Peter Knaeble, Steve Freeman, Ross Spriggs and Steve Friedrichs.
They scoped, planned, dug, spread rock and set bricks for days and days. They did an amazing
job and we are very grateful for their commitment to SJA.
With summer approaching we now have a number of volunteer opportunities in the gardening
department. When we took over the Arc (Grace House) we inherited a huge and beautiful garden
and our volunteers in the Memorial Garden and school grounds are overworked. If you are or
know of a frustrated Master Gardener or anyone with interest in gardening please give Pam
Oleson-Kremer, Memorial Garden coordinator (and our SJA webmaster extraordinaire) a call
at the Parish Center and she’ll fill you in on the details. Thanks to all who presently help.
Finally, it’s time for our quarterly reminder to park as if you lived here. Do not block driveways,
park too close to corners or hem in other cars, and respect all signs, especially handicap parking
and transfer signs. “Courtesy is the best neighbor” (from a 1950’s Disney Documentary on
Citizenship… I think)

Wedding Policies at St. Joan of Arc: Weddings at St. Joan
of Arc are provided as a service to members of
the parish community. Because of the large
number of weddings, it is not possible to provide the services of a Presider or our facilities
for people who are not registered parishioners.
For a wedding to take place at SJA, it is necessary that one
of the engaged couple be a registered member of the parish
for at least six months before a wedding date can be set. A
date can only be scheduled by one of the priests after an
initial interview with the engaged couple. A minimum of
six months from the time the date is set to the wedding is
necessary in order to complete requirements. In cases
where there has been a previous marriage ending in divorce,
it is not possible to set the wedding date until notice of an
annulment is in hand. FFI call Mary Ann at the Parish Center.
Recycle: Please use the labeled receptacles for compost,
paper, glass, plastic, cans, waste and cups. By doing so
we will be ecologically responsible and a big help to our
maintenance staff as well. Thank you.
