Here’s how it works:
Research shows that when vibration is simultaneously applied as a counterstimulation to an anesthetic injection, its sensation reaches the brain first,
blocking the feeling of pain.*
Proposed by Dr’s Ronald Melzack and Patrick Wall in 1965, there is a
neurological “gate” located within the dorsal horn of the spinal cord,
that can either block pain signals, or permit them to travel up the
spinothalamic tract to the brain.
The sensation (impulses) of vibration travels very quickly along thick,
myelinated, A beta nerve fibers at 75 meters/second. In contrast,
the sensation of pain travels slowly along thin, unmyelinated,
C nerve fibers at 2 meters/second.**
When occurring at the same time, the sensation of vibration reaches the
sensory area of the brain first, and also causes a release of inhibitory interneurons, preventing the activation of projection neurons at the synaptic
junction in the dorsal horn of the spinal cord, resulting in a closure of the
gate to the sensation of pain.

Because the brain can readily adapt to a constant stimulus,
negating a closure of the pain gate, DentalVibe is equipped with
the world’s first, micro-processor controlled VibraPulse
Technology to provide the most effective way to “close” the
Pain Gate to the brain and block the discomfort of dental injections.
The micro-sonic oscillations of DentalVibe’s comfort tips are pulsed
in a controlled synchronized wave pattern. Along with an enhanced
amplitude, VibraPulse Technology sends a soothing percussive, or
tapping stimulation deep into the oral mucosa, gently exciting the
submucosal sensory nerve receptors.
Brilliantly, it is this pulsed re-stimulation that maintains a

Faster, More Profound Anesthesia
Gentle massaging of the injection site, through VibraPulse® technology, prevents a swelling
of the bolus of anesthetic solution as it is injected submucosally. This causes a dissipation of
the solution providing a faster, more profound anesthetic effect.
Electromagnetic Induction Charging
DentalVibe incorporates state-of-the-art, Wireless Energy Transfer Technology to recharge
the built-in NiMH cell battery. Its inductive charging base utilizes an induction coil to create
an alternating electromagnetic field from within the charging base station, and a second
induction coil in the portable device taking power from the electromagnetic field and converting it back into electrical current to charge the battery.
Voltage Regulated Power Supply and Pressure Sensing Tip
In an effort to maintain the optimal frequency of vibration for closure of the pain gate, DentalVibe is equipped with a voltage regulated power supply which boosts the power when
it is needed most, upon retraction. Additionally, the latex-free comfort tips are specifically
designed with a pressure sensing feature, causing the unit to temporarily shut off if excessive force is applied during use.
Super Bright LED Illumination
The device is equipped with a super bright, white light-emitting diode (LED), strategically
positioned deep within the handle of the unit. Cleverly, the beam of light is transmitted
through an oscillating light rod which projects on to the injection site. This provides the
clinician with optimal visibility at the injection site.
Ergonomic Design
The DentalVibe instrument weighs just 3 ounces, and can easily be carried from operatory
to operatory. It’s slim, lightweight, ergonomically sculpted and balanced design fits comfortably in the hand of a clinician. Finished off with a series of strategically placed finger
grips providing ease of use, facilitating comfort and control in any area of the mouth.
Audible Distraction
An audible distraction, as a buzzing sound, has been strategically added to the DentalVibe, at a comfortable decibel
range of 70-75db. This provides an audible stimulus for the patient to focus on during the injection process.
