SR22 CIRRUS Service Bulletin Number: Issued: SB 2X-31-04 2 December 2008 SNS SUBJECT: 31-50 Indicating/Recording Systems - Pitot Heat Current Sensor Wiring Verification 1. COMPLIANCE Mandatory: Accomplish this Service Bulletin at the next scheduled maintenance, annual inspection, or within the next 6 calendar months, whichever occurs first. Compliance time begins upon receipt of this Service Bulletin. 2. EFFECTIVITY Cirrus Design SR22 serials 2979, 2992, 3002, 3026 thru 3296 w/ Perspective Avionics. 3. APPROVAL FAA approval has been obtained on all technical data in this Service Bulletin that affects type design. 4. PURPOSE On affected airplanes, a condition may exist where signal and negative wires for the Pitot heat current sensor are reversed in the plug. In the case of a Pitot heat system failure, the PITOT HEAT CAS message on the PFD will not annunciate. 5. DESCRIPTION This service bulletin accomplishes testing the Pitot heat annunciation system, and if necessary rewiring the Pitot heat current sensor plug (P626). 6. WARRANTY INFORMATION For aircraft under warranty at the issue date of this Service Bulletin, Cirrus Design will cover all parts and labor costs for this Service Bulletin if the work is accomplished within the Compliance time period and the work is performed at an authorized Cirrus Design Service Center. 7. ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS A. Acquire necessary tools, equipment, and supplies. Description Volt/Ohm Meter P/N or Spec. - Supplier Any Source Purpose Continuity Check B. Perform Inspection/Check - PITOT HEAT Fault Message. (1) (2) (3) (4) (5) (6) (7) (8) (9) (10) (11) Set BAT 1 and AVIONICS switches to ON positions. On lower outboard side of LH wing, remove cover from Pitot tube if installed. Pull PITOT HEAT circuit breaker. Set PITOT HEAT switch to ON position. On PFD, verify amber PITOT HEAT displays in Annunciator Window and double chime sounds. Reset PITOT HEAT circuit breaker. On PFD, verify amber PITOT HEAT no longer displays in Annunciator Window. Set PITOT HEAT switch to OFF position. Set BAT 1 and AVIONICS switches to OFF positions. If applicable, allow Pitot tube to cool and reinstall cover. If PITOT HEAT annunciation displayed on the PFD, no further work is necessary. Complete airplane records by noting compliance with SB 2X-31-04 in Aircraft Logbook. If PITOT HEAT annunciation did not display, perform Procedure - Repin Pitot Heat Current Sensor. C. Procedure - Repin Pitot Heat Current Sensor. (See Figure 1) (1) (2) (3) (4) Verify BAT 1 and AVIONICS switches in OFF positions. Pull ENGINE INST circuit breaker. Rotate turn studs securing circuit breaker panel to center console. Open circuit breaker panel. Remove screws securing inner circuit breaker panel to console frame and remove panel. CAUTION: (5) (6) (7) Disconnect plug P626 from Pitot heat current sensor. Depin wires from plug P626 as necessary. Verify placement of wires in plug P626. Note: (8) (9) (10) (11) (12) (13) (14) (15) (16) (17) Use care when removing plug from sensor as it is very tight and damage may easily occur. There may be more than one white wire. Orange wire may be soldered to shielding on wire harness under heat shrink, and a white wire used as a pigtail to connector. Use volt/ohm meter to verify ground (orange) wire by checking continuity to ground. Repin per schematic in Figure 1. Reconnect plug P626 to Pitot heat current sensor. Position inner circuit breaker panel on console frame and secure with screws. Set BAT 1 and AVIONICS switches to ON positions. Reset ENGINE INST circuit breaker. On lower outboard side of LH wing, remove cover from Pitot tube if installed. Pull PITOT HEAT circuit breaker. Set PITOT HEAT switch to ON position. On PFD, verify amber PITOT HEAT no longer displays in Annunciator Window. Set PITOT HEAT switch to OFF position. Set BAT 1 and AVIONICS switches to OFF positions. If applicable, allow Pitot tube to cool and reinstall cover. Close circuit breaker panel and secure with turn studs.
