The Object Of Rotary
The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise
and, in particular, to encourage and foster:
 FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
 SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the
worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an
opportunity to serve society;
 THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and
community life;
 FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a
world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
The Four Way Test
The test, which has been translated into more than 100 languages, asks the following questions:
Of the things we think, say or do
 Is it the TRUTH?
 Is it FAIR to all concerned?
 Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
 Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned
Last Meeting


A visit from District Governor Bruce and his wife Gill was a highlight on our calendar.
Bruce spoke of his eagerness to promote the 2013/14 Rotary Theme

There are to be three Partners nights in October with one being a Fellowship night. Please notify
Gerard if your partner will NOT be attending.
Note from the Editor:
After a very nice visit with my Mother in Bendigo last week I find myself wishing for a
bridge across the Strait, to enable easier access to family and friends. This is the time
in your life when you realise the need for making the most of it.
Lucien enjoyed his time although his wish to see a kangaroo was only granted in the form of road
kill. He did how-ever, get to milk a cow and meet some of our family.
Do you have any items of interest to our members? It would be great if you could send a photo
and news for the Bulletin. All items for inclusion will be gladly accepted up until first drinks on a
Sunday night. Email or Msg to [email protected] Mobile – 0428 568 485

Lucien did three states in two days, coming from Tassie to NSW via an overnight stay in Bendigo.
Having dined at the Moama Bowling Club we thought a photo on the border very appropriate. He
also managed to milk a cow without the usual mess.
From DG Bruce
Spring is supposed to have sprung, however Gill & I have only seen glimpses of it on the road this week. The warm welcome we are receiving at
clubs well and truly makes up for all the rain. We continue to marvel at the way clubs are "Engaging Rotary and Changing Lives"
Congratulations to the Rotary Club of Lindisfarne for a successful District Grant application to purchase an Automatic External Defribrillator for the
Lindisfarne Village Shopping Centre. Premier Lara Giddings attended on Friday to hand over the defibrillator to the centre on behalf of the club.
Today, Sunday 22nd we interview several candidates for the opportunity to visit Taiwan on a Group Study Exchange in March 2014. Thank you to
those clubs who have nominated young professionals, all of whom submitted very impressive applications. Unfortunately we are only able to send a
team of five including the team leader Dennis Dwyer.
DID YOU KNOW? (1)
That five D9830 clubs successfully applied for The Rotary Foundation District Grants to assist with eye camps in Nepal again this year. The District
Grant money will be matched with club funds and added to funds a number of other clubs have committed separately. Collectively this will change
the lives of many people by restoring their sight and is indeed Rotary doing good in the world.
DID YOU KNOW? (2)
The Rotary Club of Wynyard's nomination for next year's National Youth Science Forum, Laura Singleton is one of six Australian students
participating in the New Zealand Forum this year. Thanks to the other N.W. Coast clubs who have assisted Laura financially to make this happen,
and in doing so, will change another life by engaging Rotary.
PRESIDENT ELECTS : 2014-2015
Gerard Blizzard will be District Governor's Elect Ken's District Secretary and is starting to collate information on Club leaders. The first list he is
putting together is the President Elects. So Secretaries can you please forward the name, email address and phone contact of your President for
2014-2015 to Gerard. Gerard's email address is [email protected] and I know he would love to hear from you!
TASMANIA 10,000 PEOPLE PROJECT - Guest Speaker opportunity
The Rotary Club of Claremont has requested assistance for the club's recent guest speaker Manabu Kondo. Manabu spoke of his project to
photograph 10,000 faces of Tasmanians in one year. He plans to travel Tasmania and would like to be able to visit clubs, attend Rotary events and
thus ask people to be photgraphed as part of his project. He can be contacted on 0429 358 328 or by email at [email protected]
Have a look at his facebook page www.facebook.com/tasmania.10k.people.project
