concert season 2014/15 - Bushey Symphony Orchestra

CONCERT SEASON 2014/15
Helping to keep quality orchestral music live in Hertfordshire…
www.busheysymphony.org.uk
WELCOME
The Bushey Symphony Orchestra celebrates 40 fabulous years of music-making by moving back to
the newly refurbished Grand Hall at Bushey Academy in the heart of Bushey Village and performing
two concerts in the cosy atmosphere of the Purcell School in Aldenham Road.
The BSO has undergone many changes in its history, but thanks to a committed, talented and
extremely hard-working membership, the orchestra continues to be highly respected as one of the
UK’s finest community ensembles.
Our new season, which includes two Sunday matinee concerts, brings together a remarkably wide
selection of music – concertos and symphonies from Samuel Barber, Beethoven and Mendelssohn
rub shoulders with other works by Brahms, Dvorák, Fauré, Mozart, Rachmaninov, Schubert and
Sibelius. We also include a very special concert next May at which Martin Smith, our leader, will be
the soloist in The Lark Ascending as part of a concert of music written at the time of, or in memory
of those fallen during the First World War.
The soloist roster for this special season is also quite spectacular – outstanding Welsh composer/
pianist Huw Watkins joins us in Shostakovich, violinists Sadie Fields and Fenella Humphreys dazzle
with virtuosity and outstanding young Watford-born horn player, Adrian Uren plays Richard Strauss.
We look forward to welcoming you to our special season – please help us to keep orchestral music
alive and well in Bushey.
