Dear Year 4 Parents
We are delighted to let you know that we have organised a trip to support our
learning about the Anglo-Saxons this half term. The trip will take the children
on an exciting journey through a range of different hands-on activities led by
forest school leaders. The children will take part in five unique activities. After
a group introduction pupils will be split into 5 groups and will rotate through
the following activities:
 The preparation, building and constructing of a traditional Anglo-Saxon hut
using natural resources and materials
 Learning and developing the skills to weave traditional nets to send with the
Anglo-Saxon sailors for fishing.
 Acquiring the skills to succeed in a traditional game of Anglo-Saxon chess
and draughts – developing the strategies to outwit their opponent.
 Designing, planning and creating sophisticated clay drinking goblets for ale
and mead (ale and mead not included!).
 Finally, preparing a fully functioning fire in order to maintain heat, survival,
food and protection.
These fantastic experiences will take place at the Compton Verney Forest
school site.
To make the trip more inclusive and rewarding for the children the trip will be
taking place over two days, Monday 24th April and Friday 28th April.
4AD will attend on Monday 24th April.
4JW will attend on Friday 28th April.
If you would like your child to attend, we ask you to
provide a voluntary contribution of £19.50 to cover
the cost of travel and for the cost of the qualified
Forest School practitioners. See the school website
for
more
information
regarding
voluntary
contributions.
The coach will depart from school shortly after
8.40am and will leave the Compton Verney at
2.00pm, therefore we expect to be back at school
by 3.15pm. We ask that the children arrive at 8.30am via the main school
reception area for an early registration on the day of their trip for a prompt
departure.
Forest Schools promote outdoor learning in any weather. As such, the
children will be outside for the majority of the day, come rain or shine! The
children will need to be dressed in suitable outdoor clothing for the trip.
Therefore, a waterproof coat, wellies and warm clothing are advisable. You
may also need to put sun cream on your child on the morning of the trip.
Children will need to bring their packed lunch in a disposable bag! If your child
regularly has hot school meals, please remember not to order one for the 24th
or 28th April, depending on when your child is visiting!
Please make sure that the consent form below is returned to school as soon
as possible.
We are already looking forward to learning more about Anglo-Saxons and
having the chance to take part in lots of practical activities at Compton
Verney!
Yours sincerely,
Mr Dodd
Mr Willars
