SUMMER 2016
Non-Fiction:
Poetry:
In this unit, the children enjoy listening and responding to a
range of poems. They learn about poems that play with
language. They compose class and individual poems, editing
and improving their work as part of the process.
Children will be producing a factual leaflet on a local area,
hobby or sport. The leaflet should be suitable for other children
to understand and provide information in a variety of ways.
Fiction:
Gulliver - Children will have read Gulliver’s Travels and been
immersed in the various settings that he explores. This will be used
as a basis for a variety of persuasive short writing opportunities,
such as a poster and a leaflet before children move on to creating
a logbook. The final longer written outcome will be the children
creating their own imaginary lands to use as settings for a new
adventure story where they are the explorer.
Mysteries of Harris Burdick
Children begin by exploring the illustrations and creating mystery
setting descriptions, using a variety of grammatical and authorial
tools, going on to creating action, suspense and drama in their
middle-sections and endings. In the third stage of the sequence,
children write their own mystery stories, based upon a place of
local interest, of which they have collected photographs or images,
and publish them in a class collection for others to read.
