Y3 How did life change in Britain from the Stone Age to the Iron Age

The Big Question...
Y3
Spring Term 1
2015
How did
life change
Topic...
in Britain
from the
Stones and Stone Age
Bones
to the Iron
Age?
As Historians we will...
be jumping into our time machine, setting the
dial to around 3 million B.C. and travelling to
the Stone Age and Bronze Age before stopping
off at the Iron Age.
As Scientists we will...
be ‘forcing’ ourselves to look at magnets.
Why are some objects the best of friends and
others won’t go together no matter how hard
you try?
What keeps us from floating off into space?
Why do you slip when it’s icy?
Join us on our journey and remember… may
the force be with you!
As Artists we will...
be taking inspiration from some of the earliest
forms of art.
We will be creating our own colour palates to
design our own unique cave paintings. But we’ll be
using tools similar to that of our Mesolithic
ancestors.
We will also creating prehistoric ‘hand signatures’.
As Geographers we will...
(we don’t have a geography unit this half term)
As Computer Scientists we will...
programme our own sprites to play a game.
They will have to follow instructions and
navigate a maze.
As Technologists we will...
be designing a winch to help the Iron Man
reassemble.
As Thinkers in RE we will...
consider the role of places of worship in the
Christian and Muslim faiths, focusing on
buildings in our local communities. We will also
look at the significance of the Qur’an to the
followers of Islam.
As Linguists we will...
be recapping our ABCs, les couleurs et les
animaux. We will also be learning new
vocabulary about moi et ma famille
As Musicians we will...
be making sure we are pitch perfect this term,
continuing playing the chime bars and also using
the BBC’s ‘10 pieces’ as inspiration across the
curriculum.
As Thinkers in PSHE we will...
be soul searchers, celebrating ourselves as
both individuals and as part of a community,
highlighting our achievements and setting
personal goals.
As Sportspeople we will...
be expressing ourselves in the form of dance
and developing the skills needed in team
games. We shall also be continuing our journey
into the world of gymnastics; travelling, turning
and jumping to create ‘pathways’ with all the
control and accuracy of Louis Smith or Beth
Tweddle!
As global citizens we will...
discuss what’s happening in the news locally,
nationally and internationally.
How did Neolithic hunter gatherers live? What
does Stonehenge and Skara Brae tell us about
how we lived when we hunted wild animals and
lived in caves?
Hop in and find out.
Texts we could read to support our
understanding...
