Get Moving to Make Your Heart Strong!
When the weather gets
warmer, you should try to
get outside in the sunshine!
Here are some good reasons
why to go outside and get
moving:
• It is fun to play in the sun.
• It is better for your heart.
• It can make you feel
happy.
Exercise makes your
heart happy!
When you decide
to ride your bike,
walk or swim,
instead of sitting
on the couch,
you make
your heart
beat faster.
Your heart is a
muscle and it works
hard pumping blood through
your whole body every day.
By moving instead of sitting,
you help make this muscle
strong – and happy!
than normal. You can tell if
you are breathing to hard
if you can not talk. If you
exercise every day, your
heart will get better at its
main job — giving your body
oxygen.
Changes you can make
now to have a strong
heart?
Breathing faster is
good for you!
When you breathe,
you take in oxygen,
and, if you’re
exercising, you
may notice you’re
breathing faster
Only watch TV for one hour
a day. Do not drink sodas
or eat a
lot of
food with
sugar.
Get moving by
walking after
dinner with your
family.

What are Calories?
Just like gas for a car, calories are energy for
your body. Your body needs calories every day
to run well.
If you’re active, your body needs more calories.
And, if you’re not very active, your body doesn’t
need as many calories. If you eat more calories
than your body needs, they will be stored in
your body as extra fat.
Calories come from what you eat. Make good
choices for how you fuel your body. Eat lots of
vegetables, fruit, whole grains and good protein
like peanut butter, chicken, fish, and beef.
Try not to get your calories from junk food and
sugary soda. Your body will feel slower and
won’t run as well! So, try to be active, eat well
and your body will thank you!

Exercise
Puts You in a
Good Mood!
It feels good to have a strong heart that
can make everything you do easier, better
and faster.
It is also fun to be better at
something, like scoring a basket,
hitting a home run, or being a
fast runner.
Did you know that exercising can put you
in a better mood? When you exercise,
your brain releases a chemical which may
make you feel happier.
Being in a good mood is another reason
why exercise is cool!
