Week of November 19, 2012 Reading: This week we will be taking a test on the skills acquired in Unit 2. We will also go over some Non-Fiction pieces and Thanksgiving Stories. Next week we will start literature studies. Each class will be studying a different novel. Due to different timing and pacing of each novel some classes may begin activities related to their novel. Questions to ask your child: 1. 2. 3. What is Non-Fiction? What is Historical Friction? What did you learn about World War II? Vocabulary: We will not be focusing on a set of vocabulary words due to our unit assessment and short week. Math: We will be continuing our unit on Fractions. We will focus on equivalent fractions, greatest common factors, and greatest common factors with a factor tree. We will also be reviewing previous skills such as: place value, decimals, rounding and estimating decimals, and prime/composite numbers. Science: Students will continue the scientist exploration. We will be studying Edwin Humble. We will also be having classroom discussion on what collaborative practice of scientist does for society. We will be having a small classroom celebration for Thanksgiving. Students are welcome to bring in treats for the class on Wednesday. Writing- Students will continue working on correcting grammatical errors. They will be also continuing their imaginative point of view Thanksgiving piece. Students have selected an object from the Thanksgiving table and will be writing from the point of view of that object. We will continue using the stop light packet to plan for this writing. Please plan accordingly. Please remember to use the crosswalks at all times. This is for the safety of both you and your children. Thank you! Homework is due daily. Please be sure to sign the agendas. Please check jupitergrades.com each weekend for your child’s current grades. The paper with passwords went home recently. This is the best way to see what assignments your child is missing, how they are doing and are updated before the work come homes on Fridays.
