2017 LMGA MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL, KICK-OFF TOURNAMENT, TWILIGHT GOLF LEAGUE & EVENT CALENDAR After seeing the spectacular condition of the golf course last year, I am sure you are all anxious for the start of the 2017 season. The difference in the course conditions over the past two years has been astonishing. However, with progress comes change. 2017 will see a new Golf Course Superintendent, who will have big shoes to fill as Michael Golden has moved on to Sterling Farms. We will also have a new Golf Professional, who will take over for John Cooper. Finally, the much-discussed bunker and green drainage project will commence in mid-August. Plans have been drawn up to keep playing inconveniences to a minimum. The LMGA Board has been meeting throughout the winter and planning for the upcoming year. We expect another great season for all of the LMGA members. Your favorite tournaments are back (please see attached schedule) and we look forward to welcoming new participants as well as those of you who have played in the past. Thanks to the handicap system, everyone is good enough to play! Last year we instituted a tournament point system which allowed us to name a player of the year and at the same time allowed us to reduce handicaps in tournaments should any one player accumulate a certain number of points from placing in several tournaments (for more information please see www.Popeofslope.com). Other changes over the past few years were moving the Baldwin Stroke Play Tournament to September, changing the Club Championship to two weekends from three, adding flights, and even adding “The Onion”, a one day member-member in September. It has been a big success and everyone who played in it enjoyed the camaraderie and competition. Also, we saw several changes to the Member Guest which were met with great acclaim. The most significant was the end of tournament Shoot-Out, which pitted the winners of each flight on the 18th to decide the overall winner. Several contestants are still recovering from the emotional scars of this high intensity finish. The Gilardi Kickoff Tournament and annual spring meeting is scheduled for Saturday April 22ndth where we will introduce the Board and get an update on season plans and initiatives, and hear from the staff on planned course improvements. For the first time in four years, the annual dues for 2017 will increase by $5.00 across the board and are now $85 if you pay prior to May 1st and $100 from May 1st onward. Both Junior and Senior players will have discounted rates. Please see the attached application for details and note the deadlines for the Kickoff Tournament and the Twilight League. The course should be in amazing shape this spring as continued work and attention has brought the course conditions to a level not seen in many years. As mentioned, this year will see the long overdue bunker improvement project which will commence on August 15th and take up to one year to complete. This work will be done in two to three hole increments and minimal work will happen over the weekends, when our tournaments are played. Several bunkers will be combined, others will be added or eliminated, and the net result will be bunker complexes that are more attractive and strategically placed and without the many stones that have hampered bunker play over the years. More details will follow as the season progresses. We are excited to provide you first-rate tournaments where you can compete and vie for firstrate prizes, have fun and enjoy the camaraderie that only golf can provide. We look forward to a fun and exciting 2017 Golf Season.
