Mr. Tanaka, State Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, visited Georgia from 8th to
11th January and held official meetings with Mr. Zurab Alavidze, Minister of Regional Development and
Infrastructure and Mr. Giorgi Gakharia, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, respectively.
During the meeting with Mr. Zurab Alavidze, Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, Mr.
Tanaka pointed out the advantages of utilizing Japan’s high-quality technologies in the improvement
project of East-West highway which is currently being implemented through Japan’s ODA. During the
meeting, Georgian side expressed their expectations towards Japan’s superior technology and requested
early provision of Japanese loan for the planned part of the highway improvement project.
After the presentation by Mr. Giorgi Gakharia, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development on
the investment opportunities in transportation and tourism sectors, both sides exchanged their views
actively.
As a result of these meetings, both sides confirmed that the two countries will continue to deepen
their cooperative relationship.
