Autumn Term 1—Look at me!
Children to begin their learning journey at school by being able to think about
and find out about me, my body, what I like, how do I feel, what is special to me?
This topic is a chance for children and adults to build relationships with each
other as they start at school and for adults to build up a profile of their key
children of how they learn, what they like, what motivates them and what is
special to them. Children explore their bodies, their senses, what they like and
basic emotions.
Autumn Term 2—What’s in the Box?
Children will develop exploration and investigation in this topic, finding out
what's special through exploring a toy box, dressing up box, celebrations box,
jack in the box and Christmas box. The children will develop imaginative play
through exploring ways to use a box.
Spring Term 1—Down in the Woods
Children to explore the woodland environment and stories related
to the woods. Children to think about who lives in the woods, what
grows in the woods and what games you can play in the woods.
Children to centre thinking about the teddy bears picnic culminating in a picnic to share with friends and parents.
Spring Term 2—Up, up up!
This topic gives the children a chance to learn about all the things
that float in the air. They will make their own kites, play with bubbles, make hot-air balloons, play with a parachute, find out about
different kite festivals in other countries, listen to stories and learn
about some new words about floating and make pictures with bubbles.
Summer Term—We’re Going on a Journey
This topic gives the children a chance to learn about all the different ways of travelling. They will look at cars, lorries, plans and other types of vehicles, make an airport/bus/train station in their classroom, play with boats in the water tray and digger in the sand tray.
Children will get the chance to make model vehicles and pretend to
go on magic carpet rides
